So I EBF and I used to leak all the time, like every 2 hrs. But for about the past 3-4 weeks I've noticed I don't leak ever. (This is also about the same time that DS started going longer stretches between feedings, now he goes 3-4 hrs instead of every 2hrs) so is my supply just regulated now? I never "feel full" either except maybe first thing in the morning.
Then, yesterday was a very abnormal day for me. I was running around trying to get ready to leave to visit parents and attend a cousins grad party, long story short- I didn't have a chance to eat anything all day. Like literally not a bite of anything until 5pm. I was drinking some fluids, but not as much as I like to. So late last night when I was putting baby down for bed he was extra fussy so I thought, I'll just give him a boob- (99% of the time I don't have to resort to that but whatever, i dont care). Well he was sucking and sucking and sucking, but nothing was coming. Nothing. I started to freak out after about 5 mins when DS started hysterically screaming and crying AT my boob!!!
Anyways- I'm thinking my supply dipped bc of the lack of food and fluids yesterday. What do you think ladies?? :-(
Sorry, LO will be 5 months old on the 4th of July.
Re: XP: Supply issues. WDYT??
The first question: Yes, it is normal to stop leaking and to not be engorged like you used to be. They are regulating according to baby's needs. I only get that "full" feeling when baby is boosting supply during growth spurts or he skips a couple of nursing sessions.
Second question: When I am under stress, I can have a difficult time letting down, and baby lets me know it. I close my eyes and take very deep breaths when this happens and try to relax to get the let down reflex.
Not eating could have caused it for you -- I don't know. Chalk it up to a learning experience. If you're worried about your supply dipping, up the nursing/pumping today. That usually helps for me.
