Alright, I'm a FTM so maybe this is all in my head or maybe it's just something I've seen on TV and assuming it's true. Obviously I know after my milk comes in there will be times that I will leak. Is there a reason women don't just wear nursing pads all the time (when at work/going out in public etc.) or do they and it's just TV that makes it seem like they don't? It just seems to make sense to me to keep my nipple area of my shirt being moist throughout the day. As a 2nd grade teacher I think that would be more awkward than wearing the pads all day.
Re: FTM nursing pad question
This. No sense in leaking ever IMO. I liked the feeling of soft cotton over the inside of my bra anyway.
Hahaha!!! The way you wrote that cracked me up. I wore them all the time too. I liked the extra protection and the extra coverage. I had an overabundance for quite a while so I leaked a lot and definitely needed them.
Mom to Cam and Al, now expecting baby number 3, August 2016. Praying for lots of sticky baby dust!
I leak like crazy for the first 4 or so months after LO is born. I have yet to find a pad that can contain it. Do I like it? No. But I don't know the solution, since I have yet to find an absorbent enough pad that doesn't show through my bra/shirt and stays in place.
So I often just go without a pad during the first few months. If leaking is going to happen anyway, it's just one less thing to worry about. I wear shirts that it's less noticeable.
You'll see how much you leak and how much you need them. I needed them all of the time for at least 2 months. I kept wearing them at work and whatnot for like 6 months!
The only thing is that if you are very leaky you'll want to change them a lot in the beginning. You don't want to develop thrush by having your milk hang around your nipples all of the time.
