Recaro Car Seat?

I asked DH to do some research on convertible car seats and make a recommendation. I was surprised when he came back with the Recaro Pro Ride, as I haven't heard of that brand before. Anyone familiar with it?

  • I have it and like it. It's a little big for my '08 Camry, but I'm happy overall. DS seems to like it, too.

ETA: They make seats/safety equipment for race cars and airplanes so that made me feel good about it.

  • We're Recaro faithfuls. If they're good enough for NASA, they're good enough for me ;) We have the Pro Ride and the Pro Sport and are very happy with both. Like a pp said though, the Pro Ride is HUGE. I have an SUV and it's still really big, so depending on what kind of car you have, it might not be the right choice.

To clarify, I actually considered sending it back because it's so big. DH can't really sit in the passenger seat b/c he can't put the front seat back far enough with the car seat in. I have to kind've blindly put DS in the seat (as in I'm looking over the roof of the car as I angle him in) because there's not a lot of room between the top of the door and seat and that's the only way to do it without hitting his head.

If you have the money and need a smaller seat I suggest a Peg Perego. I really wanted that one, but it's over $300. I got the Recaro on sale on amazon for $189.

  • I considered getting a Recaro, but decided against it because of reading about it on car seat forums and there were a lot of people saying there is very little leg room rearfacing, their short kids were uncomfortable, even sitting crosslegged. Bummer, because I liked all the specs on the seat!

We ended up getting a Chicco Nextfit.

  • It was tied for second on my list

    1. Diono Radian

    2. Recaro and Britax

  • we have the pro ride in DH's car since DH has recaros in his race car- he was determined for his lil man to have recaros too!

It has a very tall shell compared to the nexfit, and I also think it is a bit narrower.  I have a mazda3 (nextfit) and DH has a mazdaspeed3(proride) and honestly my DH sits/ reclines his seat so far back that the tall shell allows DH to recline and still not touch the seat b/c it narrows towards the top of the shell.  DS loves being in it, and DH can still see out the back window.  Plus I also got it on amazon for $181- $20 credit, therefore I paid $161 for a $300 seat-SCORE!!
