My SO and I have been crazy curious on what the sex of the baby is. Last night he decides he can't wait the extra 5 days till our next apt and buys one of those gender tests you find in Walgreens. According to the test it's a boy. I am obviously not convinced they work but am curious if anyone else has tried them?

Re: Gender Test
Well, there's a 50% chance it's right... lol.
Really though, I have never heard good things about that test. It's just a novelty item.
Even the amazon review has 2.5/5 stars...
OP, the test has 50% chance of being right...

You could have just flipped a coin.
I'm surprised a man actually went out and bought one. Most men I've talked to think those tests are a waste of time and money. It's the women who tend to not be patient and go out and waste money of this kind of junk.
You should tell that to my BMB every day there are multiple people who got an elective ultrasound to find out the sex.
"Just for fun" to me is something that doesn't cause me to waste money.
Here is your OP. It in no way whatsoever sounds like it was purchased "just for fun". According to below your DH had intent and bought it because he was impatient - definitely doesn't sound like he did it was just for fun!

They each have a 50% chance of being right...
Regarding the bolded, you are right that in specific countries early sex determination is illegal, but the test you are referring to has NO EVIDENCE OF BEING CLINICALLY RELEVANT OR CORRECT. Great that it worked for you the first time, but that doesn't mean that there is any validity to the test at all... There was a 50% chance that it would be correct... Those aren't terrible odds. It's not like there were a million different options and it was correct.
I thought it actually says "for entertainment purposes only" somewhere on the box?

Someone who actually answered the question instead of giving opinions. Thank you!
Um, people DO get ultrasounds to find out the sex. And please don't turn this into a semantic argument. No one would even begin to suggest that the anatomy scan's main purpose is to look for a penis or not. Of course the main objective is determining the health of the baby. When she said "no one would need ultrasounds to find out the sex" she meant that if the test actually worked, an u/s wouldn't be required if you wanted to find out.
I'm about as snarky as they get, but jeez, that was just finding something to pick apart.
That's the point. It's impossible for them to "work". It's got a 50/50 shot of guessing it correctly, but it CANNOT work because there is nothing in the mother's urine that tells the sex of the fetus. If I say "girl" and you have a girl, that doesn't mean I'm psychic or have some way of telling you...it means I guessed. These tests don't have an accuracy rate because it's a scam.
Also, as to why people get snarky, women who are procreating should be smarter than this. They should do just a tiny bit of research, where they would find out there's nothing in the mother's urine to indicate the sex of the baby. Thus, it would follow, no one would waste, literally WASTE, $40 on these moronic tests.
Then don't post on a public forum. YOU put it out there that you'd blown your money on a scientifically bogus test, and then you complain when people call you out on it?
Uh, this. Wtf is wrong with people? Unwad your panties OP.
