Hi! I'm new...I've been married for five years, trying to conceive for five years...finally went to the doctor a few months and here it goes...
1. I have pcod
2. My husband has a low sperm count
The doctor did a hesterscopy on me and performed a D and C. We were then told my husband was so low that there would be no way we could conceive on our own. He seemed to want to automatically go to getting a sperm donor.
I left the office feeling defeated and ready to give up. That was back in March, a few days I called the doctor to express concerns that my period had still not started.
He sent a pill into the pharmacy for me to start my period....Right after I got off the phone with him I started my period.
Two days laterI called him and told him what happened and he called in Clomid 50 MG to be taken days 4 through 8. Day four was the day he called it in.
I guess my question is, what do I do about my husband? How do we get his count up? I should probably mention that he is working with only one guy.
I want to give this all I have and I feel like Im ready to pull out my hair!!! Can someone give me advice??
Also I'm new so I'm new to the terms. Can anyone tell me what DH means? I've seen in several times.
Thank you!
Re: Need Help
I hope this helps you in some way
First off welcome to the board. Secondly, get yourself a recommendation to a RE (That's Reproductive Endocrinologist), They specialize in infertility and therefore have to have a fellowship to get accreditted. Do not trust an OB that claims they are a infertility "specialist" unless they have RE in their series of initials after OBGYN and know to MONITOR you on clomid. (And other FSH drugs).
I just got home from work, so forgive me for not writing out the many reasons for proper monitoring but you can click on the link in the green section on the top of our board that says "New to 3T? Read this" to learn more not only on proper testing, diagnostics such as PCOS and MFI (male factor infertility). I personally helped write the MFI section two years ago as it's part of our diagnosis.
As for the talk of donor sperm...do not think of that until you have had DH go to a MFI Urologist. There are several things they can do to see if count improves before moving on to donor sperm. Cross that bridge if and when you come to it, but it sounds like you're too new into this to know if it's really needed yet or not.
I hope you stick around the board as we have some great ladies full of support and knowledge.

As always, Kati gives great advice! Definitely go and see an RE and uro that specializes in MFI. I'm sorry you find yourself here.

Agreed with all comments above. I have pcos and my husband has severe mfi. You need to have dh see a urologist ASAP because they can do a lot more for men than women when it comes for infertility. Is his low count due to a blockage or lack of production? There are many options for treatment for both.
And as said before, get yourself a good reproductive endo. This dr can help you navigate and get the proper testing to see what's going on with you and how to solve for it.
As you can tell, there are a lot of couples out there in the same boat. Be proactive, be your own champion because no one else will, and never take no for an answer with a dr. Good luck!!!
