A/S question...

I'm seeing a lot of posts about the Anatomy Scan. I'm a FTM, so these posts were the first I'd heard of it. I notice some women have already done it, or are doing it soon. I asked the nurse at my Dr office on friday when they typically do the Anatomy Scan, and she said usually around 27 weeks. Is it normal to do it that late? Again, FTM, so I'm new to all of this...

    I think it is normally done at around 20 weeks.

    MY OB said I needed to schedule it between 18 and 20 weeks.

    Thanks all, that's what I thought! I'm going in at 16 weeks and will actually ask the doctor instead of the nurse...

    I've always heard between 18-20 weeks. 27 seems awfully late. Did she mention when your next u/s would be? That will probably be it.

    My Dr does them every four weeks, so I already have one scheduled for 16 weeks and 20 weeks.

    ETA: I assumed it would be at my 20 week appt, but the reason I called and asked her is because I didn't know if they needed to schedule extra time for it, and the appt schedulers don't always know what they're doing when they schedule my appts.

    My OB does it between 18 & 20 because they want to leave room for an amnio and for the couple to have all options available in the event of a positive amnio....

    5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional.  5 BFPs.  My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.
    TFMC 08.02.13 at 19+ weeks. Everyday I grieve for my little Olive.

    The nurse said they don't do it earlier unless you're over 35 or high risk. Especially having read this response, I think I'm going to insist on one at 20 weeks. Thanks gals.

    In my state they always do it prior to 20 weeks because you cannot legally terminate after 20 weeks.

    That does seem a little late.  I'm having my done around 20w and some change, which is August 13th. 

    You can always ask to see if they'll schedule it earlier.

    Is there any way the nurse could be thinking about the glucose test? I've never heard of an anatomy scan being scheduled so late and the glucose test is usually scheduled for 27 to 28 weeks.

    I will be 20 weeks, three days when I get mine.  Just call and ask for an earlier one!

    Mine is in two weeks, and I'll be 20 weeks. i have no idea why, but my dr. did say that they latest they do it is 22 weeks. Logically it seems like they should be able to see blood flow, four chambers of a heart and other organs just fine (even better?) at 27 weeks. The norm is 18-22 weeks though.
