Jumping on the bandwagon

I've been seeing a ton of baby name posts lately so I figured I'd test my own luck!

Last night, DH threw "Edith" onto the table for a girl. Then call her "Edie" as a nickname. I kinda like it! Is it too old lady or old fashioned? I think it could make a comeback...what do you think?

So far here are our other name choices:

Girl: Emma, Sophia
Boy: Vincent, possibly Liam (our last name is very Italian though so I don't think it really gels well together with it)

Yeah...as you can see we're just rolling in options we like. Boys names are flippin' hard, man!

Re: Jumping on the bandwagon

  • I am all for using "old fashioned" names, or names that were usedfor our grandparents and great grandparents. There are a lot of great names that aegis coming back and being used more. Edith is beautiful and if you and your DH like, use it!

I like Liam more than Vincent, but that's just my opinion.

  • Personally I love names that are not too popular so Emma and Sophia would be our. I like Edith and live old style names so if you both like it go for it!!!

  • I LOVE old fashioned names, so my vote is for Edith. In fact I am naming my baby Esther if it is a girl.
  • Edith and Edie is ADORABLE. I knew a little girl named that and she was the cutest little thing!
  • I really like all of your name choices! I am a big fan of "old fashioned" names especially for girls. (One of my favorites is Judith, but I don't like Judy.) Of course I may be biased because I have an older name myself and as I've gotten older I've really appreciated not sharing it with tons of other people. :) (I've only met one other "Rosemary" who was my own age.)

I really like both Vincent and Liam too ... sorry, I'm not much help in narrowing these options down for you, I like them all. :)

  • Love Edith too!
  • Like Edith. My first name is similar and I can tell you it is almost impossible for a Spanish speaker to say. That may make zero difference in your life but if it does .... Heads up!
Love Vincent! It is currently our middle name for a boy. I would love it to be our first name but it probably won't be.

Good point! Speech therapist here and yes, just be aware the "th" sound is only in English language. It might be substituted for a "t" or "d" sound for Spanish speakers. But, if you will use the darling nn Edie or if you live in an area that's not diverse, then that might not matter!

I love those classic, older names. Emma and Sophia are so pretty but hugely popular right now unfortunately. There might be other Sophia's or Emma's in her class.
  • Not a fan of Edith personally, it just sounds like an old church lady to me.

Emma and Sophia are pretty, but as PPs mentioned very popular. I do like Liam, but that is also really popular from what I gather.

I do like old fashioned names in general, though. If that is your style, these lists on Nameberry may give you more ideas.

Classic boy names/classic girl names. Sorry it isn't clicky.

  • Edith is not my style, but I like Edie. It reminds me of my grandmother's name - Eddie Marie. It's so unique. I really like unique names. I happen to know several women named Gretchen. That is definitely old fashioned. Vincent and Liam are nice names too.
