LO won't eat too many solids

Solids LO eats:

puffs, cheerios, mum-mums, a little pancake, a little cake and icing on his bday, a bit of chop-meat (like burgers or tacos), sometimes banana

Solids LO does not eat:

Chunks in stage 3 baby food, most other fruits and veggies in solid form, other kinds of bread, everything else.

LO just turned 12 months a few weeks ago. He has six teeth: the front top four, and the center bottom two. The dr. said he is working on his canines, but it feels like it is taking forever.

What are some tricks of the trade to getting him to eat more solids. As soon as it goes in, he either forces it out with his tongue, or grabs it out. If we give him chunks mixed in something pureed, he filters it out quickly. Sometimes if he doesn't want something he rubs his eyes and pretends like he is tired. He eats milk from a bottle fine, and anything pureed goes right down too.

When should we be concerned that he won't eat solids? The dr. mentioned if he is not eating solids by 15 or 18 months, they might recommend an early intervention specialist. That sounds scary!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My Lo was the same way at 12months. I started making a lot of soups beef veggie, wedding, chicken noodle, minestrone etc..With those, I was able to get him to eat the veggies and meat. He seemed to prefer that texture over the stage 3 stuff. Also with the soup, he started liking pasta. Now, he eats penne pasta, mac and cheese with veggies mixed in and he has worked up to
Eating a wider variety of meats, fruits and steamed veggies.I personally think it helped him with texture issues to ease him into it. I'd say he made this transition over a 1.5 months period starting at 12 months.
    Hope this helps! .

My LO was the same way at 12 months. I offer lots of different foods of different textures. Try a texture like veggies steamed very soft. Or very thick pur?es then gradually more chunks of food. My LO loved sweet potato pur?ed and now loves baked sweet potato diced into cubes. Take the foods he loves and serve it in a different texture. So instead of applesauce, try steamed apple chunks. GL!

My LO didn't really eat solids until the day he turned 16 months!  He *could* eat just fine (we had him evaluated by a speech-language pathologist for oral-motor issues), he just had no interest in them.  Then, at 16 months old, his eating "light switch" turned on, and he's been eating ever since.  He's still a somewhat picky eater, but he eats chicken, beef, some fruits, some veggies, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.  I'd definitely recommend that you keep offering LO foods regularly and possibly having him evaluated for oral-motor issues (and have pedi check for silent reflux), but try not to worry.  I wish I'd known that, like walking and talking, eating solids is a developmental milestone that some babies may reach later than others.  To keep weight on our little one, we gave him Pediasure with Fiber 2x a day.  Hope this helps.
