For me, it was a great experience. I used amazon as my main registry and had bru as my secondary. Most people actually bought from amazon but my family and friends were already amazon shoppers and most were prime members as I am also. Returns were easy :: print labels, then drop it off at any ups location:: there was no dealing with customer service and looking for receipts involved.
Then I used the completion coupon to buy the remaining items :: FYI the coupon only applies to items sold by amazon which was most of them::.
We loved it. It was fun for husband and I to shop "together" while he was at work, with both of us logged in (more than one account can be authorized to edit the registry). Our family appreciated being able to purchase stuff through a site they already used.
Havent had to return anything so I cant comment on that.
I had one. There were some things, like our car seat, that were SO much less on Amazon that I felt like I shouldn't register for them at BBB.
Overall, I had a good experience, but only a few people used it. My family members that aren't very tech savvy preferred BBB since there's a physical store. I'd use it again, but would recommend a second at a real store.
I was planning to use Amazon as my secondary registry with BRU as my main, but once we saw how much LESS most items are on Amazon, I had a hard time asking people to pay 10-30% more for the same thing... Thus Amazon has become my main registry and I have some items on BRU for people who want a brick-and-mortar store.
We are already big Amazon shoppers, and if nothing else, we will get the completion discount on our unpurchased items there. They also have a neat Universal Registry tool so you can grab items from anywhere on the web and include them in your registry.
I had most stuff with BBB and about 20 things on Amazon. The Amazon was gone almost immediately. It seemed like my friends liked to shop there and my family was more about BBB. But it was a mix. I think people liked being able to shop on Amazon actually.

My registry experience with Amazon was outstanding. Half of my registry was on Amazon and half the gifts purchased were from that registry.
It even keeps track of who purchased what so that you easily reference the list for TY notes.
I use BRU and Amazon. If the item was cheaper on Amazon, I put it on that registry and visa versa.
My computer savvy friends and family are buying off Amazon.
