Refusing food

Aside from not eating fruit, DS has now started refusing other food. Especially breakfast. He will eat a whole box if Cheerios if I let him but he is refusing eggs, applesauce, toast, sausage... chicken took some convincing yesterday. Today at breakfast he threw a fit and went into full on meltdown so I took him out of his chair midway through breakfast and put him in his crib for his nap which is what happens after breakfast anyway. Now I feel bad that he didn't eat anything or maybe that I didn't offer what he liked, but my choices are limited cuz I don't want to buy groceries when we are gonna be gone for a week in a few days. If your LO is refusing table foods, how are you handling it? Trying to offer other things? Giving up and just giving them BM or formula? I feel like I'm doing the "if you don't eat what's on your plate you don't get dinner" mean mom stuff.

Wonder week meltdowns suck.

Re: Refusing food

  • If he won't eat food I'll offer a few other options if that format work then give him what he will eat and a bottle. If that means cheerios, so be it. Amir had been the same way for a few days then last night he ate. 3 big cheese ravioli and about a 1/4 of a chicken breast. This morning 1/2 an egg and 1/2 a french toast.

  • I was giving extra formula on the days she refused foods. Thankfully, knock on wood, I think we are finally out of this wonder week/two weeks/month hell we have been living in. I feel like the clouds have parted and the sun has shone down upon me. I love this new life of ours. It really did last for close to 3 1/2 weeks.
  • This was us just 2 days ago!  I posted about it here and it was totally a wonder week thing. Just keep offering everything you can, and especially out in our AZ heat, really push the bottles to prevent dehydrating. T has returned to his happy eating self and we've transitioned to about 90% finger foods now and he is doing great.

Maybe you could get some groceries that you could freeze while you are gone?

  • We don't make him eat anything, we just keep offering things, if he doesn't eat, he doesn't eat.  He still breast feeds on demand, and I offer more frequently since it's hot and summer.  I wouldn't stress over it.

  • 10 days strong of food refusal! I hope it ends soon. He's been nursing extra since he's not eating.
