Small toy storage ideas

My daughter is at an age where many of her toys have smaller parts and for the life of me can't figure out the best way to store them that doesn't result in toy soup.

These items are: cars, trains, tea sets, blocks, little people, doll accessories, snap and style dolls.

I think my summer goal is to tackle toys but I have no clue how to start. We do have a lot storage in our house so space isn't a huge issuebut the small pieces are.

Re: Small toy storage ideas

  • I just do plastic bins with covers for everything. All his cars/trains go in one, play food in another, etc. There might be some mess within the bin with accessories but at least it's all contained. If there are any really little pieces I put them in ziploc baggies in the bin but that doesn't always last long.

  • I also use old wipes containers to store groups of cars, crayons, playdough parts, etc. I spray painted them so they aren't screaming wipe case, but they are pretty convenient.

  • I use containers with attached lids. If the lid can get separated from the containers, chances are that it won't be put on. lol I like the shoe box size plastic containers with the lid that is attached to one side for small parts.

We use this and I love it. I like that the stuff is seperated, we can take bins down which makes clean up easier.  Highly recommend.

  • I have all DD1's small stuff in clear plastic bins that are long and shallow. That way we can see what's in them, there's no dugging to the bottom for stuff and they can be stacked on shelves. I did this to keep all the choking hazard toys away from the little ones and its working well. I even did it for bigger stuff that's not necessarily a hazard just to keep it organized, and I just keep that stuff on lower shelves. Big stuff is in large fabric bins.
