I know all of these questions are normal at this age, and that's great. I have been patiently answering them, always taking him seriously, explaining everything, all of it.
But now Aiden is asking me "what's this?" to everything. Even things he KNOWS what they are.
Our conversation this morning while playing with his Thomas trains were "who's this, mommy?" and I would tell him - James. Then he would say "yeah! James!" Then he went through all of his trains just like that.
I noticed yesterday when we watched an episode of Diego he asked me about the animals in the same way. Again, animals I know he knows.
Anyone else's toddler do this? I have never heard of asking about things they know!
Re: What are you doing? Why? What's this? UGH!!
So when he asks me for the 500th time, what's that? I will say, what do you think it is? And 90 of the time, he knows the answer and he will tell me.
The teacher told us this is a good way to get them to think, instead of you always providing the answer.
Thanks!
I thought it was an imitation thing since he says YES so enthusiastically like I got it right. And I totally ask Aiden what things are that I know he knows...lol. He's probably doing it to say - yeah mom isn't it annoying to ask what things are that I know you know! Haha!
And good idea with asking him what things are. I will do that
Nate does this too. His speech teacher laughed when I asked about it and told me the kid just wants to interact.
He told me instead of giving the answer, to give it and move on with expanded play. Like, "It's a dog! Where do you think the dog is going? ..." Have a whole conversation about the dog before moving to something else. I'd kind of just been validating he knew the word and going to the next question. Amazing how much more he'll talk if I do! Oops.
That's a good idea. Never even thought of that!
