Tell me the truth.

So, my hair is a lot to handle. It's pretty curly and I just want to cut it all off...but I'm really insecure about how round my face is/how huge my shoulders are. So, here's what I look like (the last picture, I'm 33 weeks KU, to be fair - the only pictures I have of my full upper body are with the guys).

And this is what I'm thinking about doing:

I love it, but I'm afraid my shoulders will look huge and I'll look even bigger than I currently look (because my hair hides them now, for the most part). I need your honest opinion.

Also, not the hair color.

  • Listen, I have a round face and just chopped my long hair last week. It's way shorter than I'm used to in a similar style like you posted. Long bob with side swept bangs. I love it. It's hot and my kid shoves my hair in her mouth all the time so it's just easier to deal with right now. Go for it!

  • I'll send some of my ballsy ness your direction. You've seen pics of the pixie cut I have now. Before I went short 10 years ago, my hair was to the middle of my back.

That being said, I think the shorter cut will look great on you. If you have a great stylist, he/she will be able to subtly customize the cut to accentuate your features the right way.
  • Honestly? Have you ever had yoir hair that short? This is just my opinion and experience. I am a similar build to you and similar hair, super thick and wavy/curly. First, I think that cut is cute and would look great on you! Wouldn't make you look bigger.
But when I've had my hair that short I have to straighten it every time I wash it. I love having that cut when my hair is straight! I just don't like how it looks on me that short and curly and I also get self conscious about my chubby face. That might not be your experience at all and you may love it short and curly. Just something to think about. With hair I figure go for it, it will grow back.

  • You know me. I'm the chop it off advocate! I have a round face and big shoulders and I think my short hair looks better than it ever did long. It's so easy to do now! Do it! Dooooo iiiiit!

  • I had my hair that short and loved it. But it really was slot of work because you have to straighten every day. If you don't mind scarves and don't sweat in your sleep. You could wrap your hair to cut down on daily styling.

  • I keep my hair that short most of the time, and it's easier than having long hair, so don't let maintenance steer you away!

You'll never know how it looks until you try it. Hair grows back!

  • I've got pretty massive shoulders too.  I always get the "are you a swimmer" or my favorite "your sons will be line backers if they get your shoulders".  Nice.  Anyway-

I feel ya.  BUT:  I chopped my hair off from over mid-back to about that short and LOVED IT!  I say go for it!

  • I think you'll look great with it short. The sharp angles will help with your face roundness too. I understand feeling self conscious though and it's pretty intimidating when you won't really know until you do it.

  • I don't think hair does anything to mask shoulders, for what it's worth. And you look great anyway! I'm a chop it off-er as well. I let mine grow long and then cut it off dramatically every two years (my hair grows fast.)

And I'm built like a brick sh!t house.

  • Do it do it do it!  That is super cute and I can totally see it working on you!  It will bring attention up to your face, actually minimizing your self conscious area of your shoulders.

I do agree with the others who mentioned the downside of not having the curly option, so if you have time to straighten it every day then I say go for it. Maybe you can put in a relaxer or something? Doesn't that help release curls?
