28 week appointment

Just an FYI for anyone who hasn't had their 28 week appointment yet, my office starts collecting urine samples before each visit at this point. I had just gone before checking in! Luckily I'll probably have to go after my appointment and will do it then.

Re: 28 week appointment

  • My office has been checking my urine at every visit since I first became pregnant. I chug water in the car on my way into the office.

  • I've been doing it at every appointment. Sucks sometimes I forget and pee before I leave the house. Lucky enough I bring water with me and always have to pee again!

  • I have been this whole time. They give me the cup to take home in advance of my next appt. I would ask and see if they would let you do that.
  • I've had to pee in a cup before each of my appointments since the beginning.

Same here.  Kinda weird carrying a cup of pee but I'd rather go at home.  I put it in a ziploc bag to make it "less weird" if that's possible.

  • Like the others, I've been doing it since my first appointment. They give me the option to pee before my appointment or take home a sample cup to pee at home.
  • Wow I feel like the odd one out because hey haven't collected since the first appointment! I also found out today that I don't go in for biweekly appointments after 28w or weekly appointments after 36w like I've been reading. It's just every four weeks.

I am seriously side eyeing your Dr for just wanting to see you every four weeks till the end, especially at 35+ weeks you need to be monitored more closely than every four weeks..

Yeah that's just not normal. You need to be monitored at the end for an array of things. So strange.

Wow....if it's an insurance issue, I'd be paying for some appts OOP late in pregnancy.  Even before then, that seems dangerous to me.  So, basically you'll be seen at 32 & 36 weeks, and then not again until your EDD?  EEeek!  ...and what if you go past your EDD?  Dr. won't see you until 34 weeks?!?!  Obviously baby is likely to come before then, but weekly (if not more frequent) is really needed at that point.

  • I have had to give a urine sample at every appointment.  I never have the problem that I don't have to go!

  • My midwife keeps a bottle of strips in the bathroom, and I pee on one each visit to check protein and glucose levels.

Mine have been every four weeks too but my doctor gave me a cup for urine samples each visit. Next visit is 32 weeks, then 34 at the hospital then it goes bi weekly from there. So your not odd. I'm in Australia too.
  • During my pg with DD, I had to pee every time at my OB's office. I'm using a MW this time and they never check your urine. I asked why and they said that protein in your urine is a sign of high BP but its a secondary symptom, meaning your BP would register as high before you have protein in your urine. So unless my BP is high at a visit, they won't be checking my urine at all. Suits me just fine!

  • I've had mine checked at every appointment as well. But if I so much as see a bathroom, I have to pee

This. I usually sit in the office praying they call me back ASAP.

  • Like pp's, I have to give a urine sample every time I go. I am also about to go to every two weeks.
