prenatal vitamins!

My doctor called in my precription for my prenatal vitamins and they are huge! Ive been having trouble taking them. Is there any other prenatals I can take?

Re: prenatal vitamins!

  • I can't swallow pills. Go me. I'm taking two chewable flinstones a day. I also have gummy prenatals by vita fusion

  • I've tried cutting mine in half but with the morning sickness getting me its been making me gag and almost impossible to swallow. It sucks!

I've heard that you could take the 2 Flintstone vitamins. Is it equaled to what's in the prenatal?
  • I take the target gummy prenatal vitamins.

If its sickness that's getting you down, go to your doctor and he/she will prescribe you diclectin. I've had the absolute worst morning sickness and got these from my doctor and now I feel fantastic again! The horse pills are also too big for me and I cannot swallow them. I've been crushing them and taking them that way. Also been taking gummy mulitvitamins. If your worried about not getting enough folic acid for baby there's always folic acid pills as well, way smaller and easier to swallow even for me!
  • I took the gummies for months leading up to my pregnancy, got the horsepills from my doctor, couldn't take them, and then got prescription chewables.  They don't taste awesome, but they are better than gagging on the giant pills!  Ask your doc about a chewable vitamin.
  • I'm taking Rx pre-natals too and they are big, but the ones I'm taking are soft gels and vanilla scented (CitraNatal Harmony). That really helps, because they are soft and smooth and the vanilla really squelches the gag reflex.

Let your Dr know you are having a problem, maybe they have suggestions. Like maybe you can dissolve the pill in a bit of water, add a bit of orange juice for flavor and drink it instead of swallowing the pill.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions I plan on talking to my doctor when I go back in a week. Thanks! :
  • Take a drink, then hold a little more water in your mouth, pop the pill in, tilt your head down so your chin is on your chest and swallow. This is the easiest way to take big pills, do no tilt your head back because it makes it harder.

  • - I dissolved the horse pills in water (like mentioned above) with some OJ, still not pleasant, but it worked until I had my appointment and got the chewables!

there are also tons of over the counter prenatal options. You don't have to take a prescription prenatal....
