Am I wrong?

So my boss has been very sick for the last two days. She was out yesterday but refused to take another day off today. She comes in with a fever, sneezing and spreading her germs everywhere! We work at a bank so I already have a tough time keeping germs at bay. So today when I started feel a little sick, I decided to go home.
Now I'm not as sick as she is but she obviously wouldn't go home today so I left so I couldn't be infected anymore. Our bank can run perfectly fine without her but she always refuses to stay home when sick! Am I wrong for leaving? My main concern is remaining healthy. I am 6wks and trying to remain healthy.

Oh now I'm sneezing....great!

Re: Am I wrong?

  • I don't think you were wrong at all.  Baby and your health comes first!

Is there someone higher up than your boss that you could talk to about your concerns?

  • You are not wrong at all I would have gotten the he** out of there to. When I was barely pregnant with my first child my boss wanted me to lift heavy stuff and as skinny as I am I could have hurt myself and lose my baby. I told him I couldn't do it and he said your not that pregnant . I said right more of a reason I can't do it. We had a big kinda fight over it and I put in my 2 weeks notice and left. I wasent going to risk my baby over a fast food place. You protecting your self and your baby you are not in the wrong at all !
  • I'd be p!ssed if anyone came to work with a fever pregnant or not.  I don't want that crap, especially while pregnant and not because I'm trying to remain healthy but because you can't take any drugs for it when your pregnant.  You just have to suffer through it.

I'm not sure but I will look into it. She seems to be only careful around pregnant employees or those with small children.

I wasn't planning on telling work about my baby until I am obviously showing but it shouldn't matter pregnant or not. No one wants to be sick!
  • I send people home sick regularly. They always have the same response NOOO but I can't risk them infecting the rest of the staff...they think they're showing dedication to their job which I appreciate but not at the risk of everyone dropping like flies.

    Thank you for being responsible!
  • I would do the same thing in your place.....people should stay home when they're sick, period.

Yep we have great benefits and paid sick days. Question is, what do you do when the manager is the one who won't go home?! And of course this isn't the first time this has happened.
  • I think going home was the right thing to do. I'm a teacher and unfortunately parents send their kids to school sick all of the time, so there's no way to get around them. I was constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer with DS and that's my only option with this pregnancy as well. Amazingly, I only got sick once during my whole pregnancy. Just be glad your boss doesn't have mono, then walk up and sneeze all over you.. yeah that freaked me out big time!
