Going to lunch in a few hours at a reputable restaurant and I can't remember--is fresh mozzarella ok? I'm pretty sure they make it themselves there. But, the chances of them using raw milk are slim--I bet they use pasteurized milk. WWYD? Eat it? Ask? I dont want to be weirdo pregnant lady
Re: fresh mozz?
Ask them if its pasteurized. Usually mozz is. I was at a restaurant last week and asked about their ricotta cause that usually isn't.
ETA- I was in the food service industry almost my whole working life and it's the servers job to either know the answer or find it out for you. So don't worry. Asking is totally ok.
I think if it's made locally it doesn't have to be pasteurized. There is a place that makes fresh ricotta here in Brooklyn and it's not. I'm not sure how those restrictions work.
ya the fresh stuff. The polly-o crap is def pasteurized.

There is this ricotta which is made right here in BK that isn't pasteurized. It's sold in whole foods but because its local they dont have to pasteurize it. It's delicious!!!
ricotta is made from the whey leftover from making mozzarella. Pretty sure if one is pasteurized, they both are.
