I
just found out I get a free breast pump through my health insurance.
There are several brands to choose from, from different suppliers. I used
a Medela Freestyle with my first (it's not an available option this time around). Any recommendations?
I bought one with my first. It was replaced TWICE because it broke. It was under warranty (one year) so while it didn't cost me a thing to have it replaced, I was without a pump for almost two days both times while I waited for them to overnight me a new one. And my already weak supply took a major hit both times and never bounced back after the second time.
I started out using the third PISA (which was only use for 2 months with DS1), and it started losing suction again. I called Medela and they tried to help, but obviously they couldn't replace again since it isn't under warranty. I already had it on the highest setting and have an amazing supply this time around so I knew it wasn't me.
I ordered the Hygeia through my insurance company and have been VERY happy with it.
Bonus- The Hygeia can use Medela parts, which is great bc you can pick up Medela parts everywhere. You can connect the Medela hoses to the pump and it works perfect. AND, it's a closed system pump- which means you can recycle it and/or give it to a friend.
I have the backpack PISA; used it with DS for almost 9 months EPing and now have been using it for DS#2 with breastfeeds but I pump while at work. I replaced the parts for DS#2, but otherise not a single issue.
I ordered the Ameda Purley Yours pump through insurance and I don't like it as much, it doesn't have the let down button and is not very easily portable- so I leave it on my nightstand sitting out which works out okay for me.
I have the Ameda Purely Your Ultra and I love it. It came with a carrying case and everything. But I never used anything else so I don't have anything to compare it to.
Re: Recommend your Breast Pump
I would NOT get a PISA.
