Should I now give tylenol??

Hey ladies. DS woke up with a 101.5 fever. I gave him motrin at 6:30. He went down for a nap and recently just woke up. He's super cranky of course. Took his temp and it was down to 101.1. I can't give him motrin again until 12:30 at the earliest. Should I give him some tylenol now to help with the fever?

Re: Should I now give tylenol??

  • I would.  I usually alternate the 2 every 4 hours.

  • Yes, I would.  My pedi says give Motrin and then if the fever isn't down in 2 hours give Tylenol.  Then give the Motrin again 4 hours after that.  She says to treat them as two totally separate medications.

  • I was told the same thing by pedi about treating them as separate meds. I'm still careful about avoiding an overdose, but I did have to use them together at one point and had no problems.

  • I would also.  DD's pedi recommends alternating Tylenol and Motrin every 3 hrs, since you can't give Motrin more than every 6 hrs.  So let's say you give Tylenol @ 9 a.m., then Motrin @ 12, Tylenol @ 3, you'd be ready to give Motrin again @ 6.
