PIO craziness tonight!

So far, the PIO's haven't been bad at all. I just numb it and DH jabs the needle in there. Well, tonight, right before he stabbed me, I thought to myself, "Geez, he hasn't hit a vein (or whatever it is that bleeds like mad) I bet he will tonight." Well, sure enough, as soon as this thought passed through my mind, DH said, "Oh Sh##!" There was blood in the syringe when he pulled back. Then, when he took the needle out to clean it up, it became a murder scene! Wow! Who knew a tiny hole could cause such a blood bath?!

So, take 2: He stabbed me and hit a nerve. The pain shot up my back and down my leg. Seriously? All in one night? At least we got that over with! Now my butt hurts. Obviously!

No real point to my story other than to share my PIO circus!

It's really not that bad.  It bled a couple times for me, but that was more when I was sticking myself in the same place for days on end.  And my nurse said not to numb it.  If its numbed with ice it can prevent the medication from spreading through the muscle like it's supposed to.

  • I use an ice pack for 5 minutes before he injects. I don't even feel the needle go in. Today, was just comical! The nerve pain was more a weird sensation than really pain. Trust me, after getting all those shots in your belly, this one is a piece of cake!

Also, before I did ET, I would sit with a heating pad on the area for a few minutes to help the oil spread out. Now, after ET, I just have DH massage the spot pretty aggressively. I thought it would hurt when he did it, but it doesn't hurt at all. I've gone from not even being able to look at the needle when DH was getting it ready, to getting it ready myself. Oh, and I put the syringe in my bra to warm the oil while I sit with the ice pack on my butt. It helps it thin just a little bit and it's a little easier to inject, according to DH.

Interesting how everyone's instructions are different! My RE said that the needle is going in 2 inches and numbing with ice for 5 minutes is only going to numb the surface, not 2 inches of muscle. I'll assume he knows what he's talking about since I haven't had an issue thus far and according to my symptoms, the progesterone is definitely in my system.

  • I wonder if orajel would work :) I'm kinda kidding, but kinda not kidding! You'd have to wipe it off with the alcohol pad, but I wonder if the effect would be left?

My husband drew back blood once. I guess I should have put pressure on it because I bled everywhere without realizing it. Oops. We live and we learn.
  • Of course I read your story and low and behold I do my injection this morning and blood!  What mess!
