Cloth Diaper Mamas...

You guys rock!  I've started thinking about CDing.  Any suggestions on how to begin, what to buy, etc.?

  • You should go over to "The Eco-Friendly Family" board. Those ladies know their stuff and are really helpful. :) I'm a newbie or else I'd help you more!
  • Are you familiar with the different CD options?

    Will do.  Thanks!

  • I just started to think about this last night....I have a couple posts out there about CDing, but I found a lot of great information on BabyRabies.com....she is even doing a CD kit giveaway!

I'm still in a strictly research stage. lol.  I never really considered it before but since I SAH, why not?

  • Check out iris' blog. I was checking it out the other day because I was disgusted by the amount of diapers I go through.

PS: How have you not eaten Judah's cheeks off yet? He's gorgeous!! Miss you girlie :-)

  • Yay! I love CD's so much, you should definitely give them a go! I would try the trial pack at Jillian's Drawers, you get a great variety of diapers and you can figure out that way what you like.

  • I've tried a variety of diapers (from prefolds, fitteds, bumgenius, kissaluvs, kushies).  My favorite are the bumgenius and kissaluvs.  Not only are they the easiest and most convenient but they keep DS so much drier than the fitteds or prefolds.  The bumgenius are one size too so they grow with your baby.

I bought the majority of mine on craigslist, diaperswappers, and through Jillian's draws "gently used" program to cut back the cost of them because they are pretty pricey.  I also asked for some more for christmas! ;)

  • Green Mountain Diapers has good info. We've been cloth diapering since 3 weeks and love it, love the money we save.

  • I like the pocket diapers.  I use Fuzzi Bunz, just ordered 2 BabyBelle (Etsy) and will be getting some BumGenius3.0 for Christmas.

  • here's a great info page on cottonbabies that helped me get started.

basically, there are a few options:

*prefolds (the absorbant part) w/ covers (the waterproof part that keeps it all contained)

*fitted diapers (the absorbant part) w/ covers

both of these choices are nice and economical, since you can reuse the covers until they're icky and replace the  absorbant parts

    OR

*pocket and all in one diapers which are single use, the you wash em.

they're a bit pricier nut more convenient.

I'd suggest getting 6 prefolds with a cover to test and one pocket diaper to see what you like.  Right now, I ose prefolds w/ bummis or mimas covers at home and Bum Genius or Happy Heiny's pocket diapers for day trips.

hope that crapload of info helps!
