"normal" periods?

Have you periods been "normal" since they've returned? I just got my first one since before being pregnant (not counting pp bleeding and mirena insertion and removal bleeding) and its horrible!  I have really bad cramping, extremely heavy bleeding, several clots, and the bloating is comparable to that of a beached whale.  This is not normal for me, well, the old pre-baby me I guess.  Is it normal for it to change like this? Will it go back to normal? Is this real life?

    I just had my first period and it was normal for me except a lot lighter.  Sorry I can't be a lot of help :(

    I think I've had 6 periods since LO was born and they've all been super heavy. I have to change my super tampon every three hours. It's awful. Luckily I haven't had much in terms of cramps but my cycle went from 30 days to 60. This is going to be fun for TTC someday...

    my first one was utterly horrible. very heavy. extreme cramps. felt like i was being torn apart. then everyone after that was "normal"

    Well I still haven't had one since I had the Mirena inserted in October! So I'm interested to see these replies as well, because I know it must be coming and I will need to be prepared!

    I never had one with the Mirena in (I bled for a few days after getting it inserted though); occasional spotting but that was it.  I got it out 2 weeks ago though so I'm hoping I'll go back to normal next month.

    My period returned in October and hadn't been normal since. I'm on the pill and it's not predictable at all. I'll have it for a few days then it'll stop for a week or so and then will start again.

    Mine is so light now that "lite" tampons are almost too much... My cycles are also about 38-40 days.

    Ditto! Better buy the huuuuge box of tampons. I used to love my DivaCup but cups just do not cut it for me postpartum.

    It took awhile for mine to return to normal.  I have had 7 so far and they have gotten progressively better and now they are finally back to were they were pre-baby. The first couple were horrible because I was really crampy, moody, and extremely bloated. Now I have pretty much the same symptoms I had before.
