I put them directly on the rack so the heat can evenly circulate. They should definitely be done in an hour.

Every time I do this, sugar leaks out and burns so I put a baking sheet [or just foil but you don't have any] in the rack below to catch it.
If you put foil on it, it steams more then bakes. I much prefer the flavor
