Baby Names

Karolina

WDYT of Karolina? Do you pronounce it like the states (North Carolina, South Carolina) just with a K? Do you say it caro-leena?

According to BTN, it's a multi-ethnic name (and I am some of the usages listed) name and is pronounced the second way (even though people may say it like Carolina)

Overall Questions

1. WDYT of Karolina? Do you like it? Dislike it? Why?

2. Which way would you pronounce it (if I didn't tell you the pronunciation)?

3. Would you assume that the child is of a certain ethnicity if they had the name? What ethnicity?

4. Middle names for Karolina (for me, I don't care if it's not a family name too much)?

Thanks!

Re: Karolina

  • 1. It's on my long list, but spelled with a C.

    2. I would use the Spanish pron (cah-roh-lee-nah)

    3. My first assumption would be either Spanish or Italian heritage, but I think this name is also commonly used in eastern European countries.  My H is of Spanish heritage and I am of Italian, so that is why I probably think the way I do.

    4. Karolina Jade, Karolina Frances, Karolina Faye, Karolina Renee, Karolina Hope, Karolina Pearl.

  • I tend to think of Karolina Kurkova, so I pronounce it as Caro-leena, not like [North] Carolina.

I kind of like it. I don't know if I like it enough to use it, but it's pretty and feminine.

I don't know if I would necessarily associate it with a particular ethnicity, though I think that Karolina Kurkova is Czech.

I'll come back with come middle name suggestions. I'm drawing a blank right now.

I like both Karolina/Carolina and seeing it as a child's name I would pronounce it care-o-lee-nuh (so NO not like South Carolina).

If she was Carolina, I wouldn't think of any ethnicity in particular.  If it was Karolina I would assume Polish or some Eastern European descent.

    yep, all of this.

  • 1. I really like Karolina. I think it's pretty.

    2. Care-oh-lee-nuh

    3. I would assume the child would be of Polish descent, but that's only because I know a Polish family with a little girl named Karolina.

I like Karolina a lot - its unique.

    I would pronounce it care-o-lee-na

Would say ethnicity is Polish or Russian based on the spelling and pronunciation

    Karolina Lynn

    Karolina Marie

    Karolina Jo

    Karolina Jean

I would lean towards a more classic, simple mn with a unique fn but thats just my style.

  • 1.  I like the name, but spelled with a C...

    2.  I would pronounce it like the states

    3.  I would also think Polish with the K spelling. I do know a guy named Karol, and he's Polish

    4.  No suggestions, but I think it would go best with a two-syllable name

  • I would say Care-oh-lee-na just because the only Karolina I know of is Karolina Kurkova which would also make me think the child or her parents were Eastern European.

  • 1. I like it.  I have a good association with it.  I think it is feminine and has a nice flow.

    2. I would pronounce it it care-oh-lee-nuh

    3. It would depend on the child's last name, but probably Spanish/Mexican or Polish/Czech

    4. I think lots of things would work

    I would say cahrohleenuh with that spelling. I like it okay.nbsp; Not my favorite, but certainly not bad at all.nbsp; I would assume the child had a Polish background. nbsp;

Agreed. I wouldn't pronounce it the way you want it be be pronounced.
  • I would say Care-oh-lee-nuh because I grew up in Spanish speaking communities (even though that first syllable would be wrong). I dislike the K because even though it's completely legit, I think it would come off as a creative K spelling for a C name unless you're an early-generation American or have strong ties to family in Europe or are naming her for someone.

I would go for something short and avoid an -a ending or a long 'e' sound. Karolina Jane/Rose/Ann/Beth/June/Blair/Blythe/Brooke. Something like that.
