S/O Double Strollers

I have been going back and forth on whether or not to go with a double this time, or to just get another travel system.

DD1 will be 2.5yo when DD2 is born.  She is pretty independent and we don't use a stroller a lot anymore, so it makes me think we probably don't need a double, but I wonder if there are times when I will really regret that.

Does anyone have any experience with that kind of age range and whether a double was helpful or just a waste of money? Thanks!

Re: S/O Double Strollers

  • DS will also be 2.5 when this LO is born.  We are going with a double stroller.  I can envision too many scenarios where I know I will want both of them buckled down in order for me to take them places.  lol.  Currently we don't use the stroller a lot when we go places (stores, restaurants etc) because DS just walks, but we take a lot of walks in the park with the stroller, and we also use it for him when we travel, so I think it will be a necessity for us.

  • I was thinking about this yesterday when I was with my BFF and her 2 kids.  They are 11 months and 3.5yo.  Her daughter just walked next to one of the strollers.  So I think I am going to skip on the double.  DS will be 3 when this LO is born and we will not be going out that much during the winter where I would need a stroller.  By the time the summer rolls around he will be 3.5 and hopefully will be good at walking with me and the stroller.

  • We got the Baby Jogger City Select for the flexibility. I am really loving it so far with just DS. And the car seat adapter for the newborn car seat is great. It's a little pricey, but I sold my old stroller from our travel system and used it towards this one. I got it off albeebaby.com and purchased the accessories from whatshebuys.com (they were cheaper than other sites and had free shipping).

  • It's a good investment especially when traveling...the kids are still small and can't keep up all the time...but I will be purchasing a double it just more easier to have both kids in a stroller...
  • We had two under two last time and will again this time. So my first was 18 months when baby was born, we still use the double now and he will be three in September. But he likes to sit and ride. We got s boogie board for our city mini double for him to ride once baby gets bigger and uses the other seat. I plan to baby wear a lot in the beginning, it's nice to strap the older one down in certain situations. Maybe something like a sit and stand would work for you or get a single and bring a carrier if  you are somewhere where older LO may get tired of walking.

  • I'm glad to see this post and am going to watch for the answers to your question!

We'll have a 3 y.o. when the baby is born.  Our toddler is very independent and likes to walk, but I think we'll probably get a double stroller for times when he gets tired (e.g. the end of a long day at the zoo) or too rambunctious (e.g. while I'm shopping).  Of our two strollers (a BOB and a Graco Metrolite), I like the BOB the best. But I don't want a side-by-side stroller, which seems to be the only option with the BOB Duallie,so I'm hoping for suggestions for a front-to-back double.

Look at the contour optima tandem stroller I thought it was really nice and versatile
  • Go for a sit n stand! I seriously love it. #1 was 2.5 when #2 was born and it was great. He got tired and wanted to ride some but enjoyed being able to jump out and walk. I love that he can get on and off. Def. don't get a regular double, get a sit n stand.

  • Just purchased a Double Baby Jogger! I have a single Baby Jogger that I love (that i'm still holding on to.) I decided to go with this because half way through our walks my 4 yr old will get tired and ask to sit in the stroller and have me carry my 11 mo old! haha So I'll be using this for them both this summer. And next summer my plan is for both babies to be in the double & my then 5yr old can ride a bike or scooter... I hope! I also prefer the side by side doubles verse the in-line doubles, I feel like they handle better and and are more comfy for my kids.
