Pain meds

I am 8 days pp and thought I was feeling better so I cut back on my pain meds...I am not as better as I thought and still have excruciating pain in my hip and right side of my stomach. The only problem is I only have a couple more days of pain meds left...Percocet 3x daily and 600mg of Motrin 2x daily...my docs office is closed on the weekend and I have my follow up appointment on Monday.

Should I risk a Percocet free weekend and wait until I see the doc Monday or call and ask for more? If I call...how do I not sound like a junkie?

I know this is dumb, but I just need reassurance or an anecdote of someone in a similar situation. Last CS recovery was so much easier!!

Re: Pain meds

  •  I'm not much help. I went home after 5 days and was good without the percocet on day 6.

When I had my wisdom teeth out and wouldn't give me more drugs, they told me to take 2 Tylenol every 4 hours and 2 Motrin every 4 hours so I ended up taking pills every 2 hours.  Just in case you end up in tons of pain without stronger meds.

  • They gave me Lorcet.  I rotated it out with Motrin. . . I would take Lorcet and then about 2-3 hours later take Motrin to make it last longer.

I dont think you sound like a junkie. It hurts!

  • Def ask for the meds ahead of time! Just get the prescription, if you feel good you don't need to fill it, but if you are in a lot of pain the last thing you want it havong to run to an ER to as for meds when you feel like you're dying! Also, prevention is easier than getting rid of pain once it sets in. That's what anesthesiologists recommend.

Call and get them. I am 7 days post csection, and I think I did too much today because I'm in more pain tonight than I have been in days. I also went too long in between pills today, big mistake. I was just counting my pills figuring how much longer they'll last me and when I should call for a refill. If you're a junkie than so am I.

This. There is nothing wrong with being prepared. When I had my son they told me to keep up on the meds. I was hurting but thought that it was not that bad until I missed a dose. Man after that I was in a ton of pain.

  • Thanks ladies. I made the call this morning and left a message with the nurse after waking up in enormous pain. I figure if nothing else, they can recommend a nonnarcotic pain reliever.

  • I didn't have the balls to ask for more last time, even when my incision reopened they didn't give me more. I'm not putting up with the pain this time, no way.
