Not to be snarky, but I think showers are usually thrown for you---not by you. I threw a shower with a winter/snowflake theme last year for my cousin--but she had absolutely nothing to do with any of the planning.

This exactly. OP, do not throw a shower for yourself. It is tacky and people will side-eye it, even if they don't come out and say anything. You get a shower only if someone offers to throw you one, and the host/ess gets final say in themes and decorations, although s/he can ask for your input if they choose to.

Oh I'll be snarky. You do not throw a shower for yourself. Period. End of story. There are no special circumstances. You do not do it.

I actually have a friend that just did her own. Her closest friends all JUST had babies within the 2 months prior, her mother passed away when she was in HS and her husband's mother was/is in the hospital battling cancer. Her SIL started planning it, but with MIL in the hospital on her deathbed, my friend didn't want to put the pressure on her and took over. I know it's not generally socially acceptable, but I do think there are circumstances......
I've planned showers for friends and discussed themes with them. Usually it went along with whatever their nursery theme was though, just like you'd plan a bridal shower around the wedding's theme. I have already discussed my planned nursery themes with my sister and bff, and have no doubt they'll use that for my shower.
I am not throwing my own but I do plan on discussing the theme with my sisters. They won't mind and they love to know what I would like. After all it would be my baby shower.
If you want to plan your own baby shower just do it. It's just like throwing yourself a bday party. As long as your happy, that's all that matters. You really don't have to listen to others opinions.
I get that some people don't have others to throw them showers.... My suggestion would be to do something AFTER the baby is born so family and close friends can meet baby. I wouldn't throw a shower for myself though. (Hey but I'd probably die laughing if anyone wanted to throw me a shower anyways) But thinking of a snowflake themed baby shower is pretty cute! My wedding was snowflake themed... I read this post wrong and thought at first it said snowflake theme baby room or something... Got me thinking about actually doing a snowflake themed nursery. Kinda cute! Wouldn't go well with every season but hey, that's the season my kid was born in!

I am sorry, but I am giving this an eye roll today...

Same here. We recently had friends who said they wanted to get everyone together for dinner before the baby was born. We all picked a date that worked. A week later we got a baby shower invitation in the mail for that date. I guess they were planning themselves a baby shower but tried to make it seem like they weren't. Super tacky...we didn't go.

I've never been to a baby shower where the theme was something other than "baby."
Or one that the expectant mom throws for herself.
