Trouble TTC

Talk to me about trigger shots

We are doing one more round of clomid, but will be starting femara next cycle with ovidrel. How does the trigger come into place? Do I only trigger if I have follies show up in my mid-cycle monitoring? Or is it just on a certain day of my cycle? I feel like such a noob, but can someone please explain it to me?

Re: Talk to me about trigger shots

  • My RE monitors me. I've done both clomid and femera, they have me do opks until I get a surge. Then I come in and get a ultrasound before the trigger.  If they don't see any follicles they won't do a trigger.  If I don't get a positive surge by day 14 they have me come in and do an ultrasound and trigger if the follicles are mature enough.

This. I was always ready to trigger when I went in for monitoring on about CD12 but it can vary so don't get discouraged if you don't. Once they determine when you should trigger they will give you a TI schedule or an appt for an IUI.

  • My RE typically has me use OPK's since I already surge on my own.  When I have used trigger shots, it has been because of my DH's work schedule and needing to time things perfectly around him being in town. If you have your mid-cycle monitoring they should be able to see where your follies are at, and estimate when you should expect to see a surge on your own, or trigger. Either way, if you are seeing follies at that appointment, I would personally use OPK's just to make sure you don't surge on your own and miss your window. If they have you trigger on a certain day, you usually ovulate about 36 hours later.  HTH!
