Thought? It's after my dad. Originally I was going to use it as my sons Middle name but my dad was such a great person, I've been thinking about using it as a first. DH Loves my dad and is all for using it as FN or MN.

What are your first thoughts about hearing this name? Is it too out dated for a first name?

Whle it is nms, I can think of a lot of good points for it, it's quite uncommon, I have never met a Russell (which is likely why it does not feel dated to me), I love that it is for your dad as well.

I think of Russell Brand, BUT I'm currently watching him sing a song on Rock of Ages as I type this . And his 15 minutes are just about up, so no worries on that association.

The name is nms, but I love the family connection!

It's my grandfather's name. We plan to use it as a MN. I like it probably because of the association with my grandpa, but not enough for a FN spot. It does seem old manish to me.

I really like the name Russell and love that it's for your dad. That is something special that goes beyond any naming style. Plus I think Russ is an adorable nn for a little boy that could age with him as well.

LOVE! Its my grandfathers name who is one of the most amazing men I know! So my DS mn is Russell. I didnt know id have two babes in one year or I would have held off and names this boy Russell for his first name. So i vote to use it!
