Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Where to pierce ears?

My LO is 7 months old and I want to get her ears pierced.  I asked the pediatrician for recommendations on where to go - she didn't have any but told me to what to watch for...

I feel weird taking my baby to the mall and getting it done by a high school student but don't know where else to go or find places that would be a better option.  Any suggestions on how to find a place?

I live in Germantown, MD but would be willing travel (a reasonable distance) to get this done...

Re: Where to pierce ears?

  • You only want it done by needle. Do not get it done by the gun. Piercing guns cannot be properly sanitized and can transmit blood born diseases (like HIV and Hepatitis). Blood particles are still present on piercing guns even after washing. There was a large case of this in Florida about 6 years ago. So, you want to stick with needle piercings and go to an actual piercing shop. Some states prohibit the use of a professional piercer before a certain age (usually like 13-16 years). I got lucky and a family friend of ours owns a piercing and tattoo shop. So when DD was 6 months we took her in and got it done with the needle.

  • I 2nd a tattoo shop that does piercings...they have to post health scores so you can make sure they're sanitary before you let them pierce LO's ears.

This exactly....I'm lurking from 3-6 month. We got Lo's ears pierced at 3 months at a repritable tattoo shop where I'm from. They did an excellent job and were very precise.
