Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how much liquids?

how many liquids is your baby taking at this point?  My DD is almost 9 months and recently started taking less ounces per day in her bottle.  Not helping the situation is that she got sick right when I was trying to start introducing sippy cup, so she doesn't drink well from that either yet....  suggestions?

Re: how much liquids?

  • At 9 months LO was drinking 30oz of formula (Five 6oz bottles).  She was still practicing with the sippy so she wasn't getting much water there.

  • My son is 10 months old and takes 5 bottles of pumped breast milk a day with 5 oz in each bottle. He is offered water in a sippy at each of his 3 meals but has hardly any, maybe 1 oz total a day of water. He also has 2 oz of breast milk in his oatmeal each morning.

  • My child is 9 months old today.  Around two weeks ago, she started to consume less formula.  It started when she began teething.  She (finally!) has her first tooth, but her appetite has remained the same.  She drinks 4 ounces every 3-4 hours.  I'd say she gets between 20-24 ounces a day.  She also does not drink well from the sippy cup.  She's trying to though.

  • My 9 month DD doesn't eat as much formula as she's supposd to.  She's so active she just wants to play and a lot of times she just wants baby food.  I'm on day 2 of introducing the sippy cup and so far she just wants to bite it.  But my pediatrician said at her age she needs 24-30 oz. of formula. If she doesn't wake up in the middle of the night, which she still does 1-2 times a week and eats 3-4 oz, then she gets 20-21 oz.  I've tried to feed her more and sometimes she'll take it but but usually she'll only eat 4-4.5 oz. every 4.5-5 hours.  I found that if I make her 5 oz. it'll take her about 30-45 min. to finish it.  Sometimes she will eat more with a fast nipple but it doesn't always work.  So her Dr. told me that we need to supplement the loss of iron and calcium she's not getting from lack of enough formula.  Therefore, she eats iron fortified cereal every morning (with 2 oz. of formula in it--which is inculded in 20-21 oz total she normally eats) and I have yogurt melts and just bought her organic greek yogurt to help.  Suggestions for the sippy would be awesome as well since I'm a FTM.  Hope this helps.  Good luck!
  • DS gets four 8oz bottles a day plus water in a sippy cup at each of his 3 meals.
