Changing Tricare while pregnant...

I need your advice. We were stationed in WA so we were on Tricare Prime Remote West. We are transferring/have transfered to Texas (DH is already there, I'll be there Monday). I need to switch over to Tricare Prime South. The Tricare guy said I can't switch until I am physically in TX.

I am currently 14 weeks with twins and would like to switch to Tricare Prime South now (since I'll be there in less then a week) so that I can get setup with a PCM to get my referral to an OB/GYN.

Do you think I should go ahead and switch over now so that it isn't another 4 weeks before I see a doctor? I'd like to get in with the PCM next week right when I get there so that I can try to get in with the OB ASAP.

Thanks!

  • Problem is... if you switch now and something happens in WA before you get to TX, you aren't covered.

I'm in TX now but moving to the North region next week. I will switch when I get to PA. The switch is instant in their system.

  • You are still covered and if you have an emergency you won't have to pay you are just in a different region. Just like if you were on vacation

  • Just call Tricare South and explain the situation and they'll switch you.  I called 2 or 3 days before we PCS'd to a new region and switched myself, got a new PCM and everything over the phone.  I didn't have to wait for a referral to OB, but I did have to wait until my husband signed in to post before I could make an OB appointment. That make be exclusive to the nurse I talked to, or this hospital (Riley, KS) but it doesn't hurt to call OB after you switch and ask about making an appointment.
