Toddlers: 24 Months+

Sleeping a way from home - different options other than PnP?

DS is tall for his age. I am realizing that he is getting too big for the PnP - he will toss and turn and wake up when he is up against the wall of the PnP. We will have lots of traveling with the upcoming summer months, so I am looking to transition to something .... just not sure what that something should be - I was wondering if anyone has used a travel cot or something of the sort? A blow up mattress?

  • We used the regalo toddler cot, it was ok.  Very stiff, we used a mattress pad on top of it to make it more comfortable but I still felt bad for her.  So we got the toddler inflatable mattress from Walmart instead.  She looks so much more comfortable on it.

  • On mobile so not sure of your LO's age but DD started sleeping in a bed when traveling around 2. We just propped some pillows around her so she wouldn't roll off. We slept in same room so we would hear her if she tried to get out of bed for some reason.

This. We stayed in a hotel when DS was 22 months and he wouldn't sleep in the PNP. We put him in a twin bed with one side against the wall and pillows on the other side and he did great.

DS is 2, I see I forgot to mention that!  We will be camping and staying with relatives, so an extra bed is not an option - just enough room for a cot or some sort of blow up mattress.  . ....  I'm leary of buying something like a pp mentioned - buy it and it is uncomfortable for DS :(

We camped this past weekend and DD slept great on a blow up mattress!  DD and I slept in a queen blow up mattress and DH slept on a twin blow up.  Since DD went to bed first, she liked the bigger bed better!

  • If we have the space, we will bring the kids Aero bed that we bought.  It has built in bumpers (the bed looks like a giant PEZ) and it is big enough that she will fit in it for a while.  The other alternative is me sharing a queen bed with her (for hotel room situations).  Both seem to work well for us.

We also use this, in fact my 5.5 YO still uses it.  She has always loved it.

  • I don't know where she bought it, but MIL bought one of these to keep at her house for when we visit:

Again, she doesn't have this same one, but it's the same basic concept.  DD loves sleeping in it.  When we travel on our own, I'm a little embarassed to admit it, but we use an old inflatable pool float that was used by my aunt and uncle with my cousin.  It blows up firm, has a tallish border around it, and has that makeshift pillow built into it.  Plus it's the perfect size for toddler bed sheets.
