My 5monther generally co sleeps, nurses to sleep and falls asleep on his side thanks to side nursing. Sometimes I roll him onto his back but I usually just position myself so that he can't roll over onto his belly.
Tonight he was on his side when I got out of bed and he instantly rolled over onto Mr Belly. I straightened him out onto his back and he immediately rolled over again.
I know he can roll back onto his back, but I don't know that he would if he needed to! We honestly do not do a lot of tummy time, which is my lazy fault. But he is strong! All day today he was doing crunches, trying to sit up.
I heard that once they roll onto their stomachs while sleeping that you can leave them in that position while still putting them to sleep on their backs for starters, but it terrifies me! However, the thought that he might sleep better excites me! Then I feel guilty that I want him to sleep, which is just silly.
Someone reaffirm that it's all right to let him sleep on his stomach once he rolls onto it by himself!!!!
Re: Aaaaaand he's on his belly
It is totally fine! My DS was like that and now sleeps mostly on his tummy and sleeps sometime 12 -14 hours straight, he's almost 2. DD has been rolling onto her belly and I'm going to try and get her to feel comfortable doing the same thing if she wants to.
For DS we spent a few days sleep training during this time at night, only because he wasn't waking at the same time anymore, so we knew he wasn't hungry. He was also waking himself up due to being on his stomach and not turning back. We would go in turn on his sleep sheep, mobile and turn him onto his back. After the few days, he was sleeping all night with no wakings and able to turn himself every direction. DD is a little slower in this department and is still waking twice a night, I'm hoping we can get her to start sleep training soon, so I can get my rest again!
