Facebook MIL silly vent

I am a 31 year old woman.

This is my first pg. neither dh nor I have any children.

We will have been married 9 years in July.

We own a home and work professional jobs. And have for a long time.

We both graduated from university.

I like to garden and volunteer for a girls youth group.

Why oh why does my MIL refer to me on Facebook as Baby Mama?

Pictures of my shower, and me were posted. It was a beautiful shower and well attended. A luncheon at a beautiful location.

My MIL labeled the pictures of me as Baby Mama.

I am her only DIL, dh is a twin and jis twin is disabled and unmarried.

What the heck?!

Now my friends, family, the adults and girls I volunteer with get to see it...

I have done nothing to earn the title. I think she thinks she is being cute, but it is embarrassing.

Re: Facebook MIL silly vent

  • I'm not really bothered by the terms "baby mama" or "baby daddy", I think mainly because I know it's a joke. MH and I have been together for almost 5 years, and we love each other very much.

That being said, if my MIL referred to me this way, or labeled me as such on a social media website, I would be extremely offended. I am the mother of your grandchild, show some respect. Haha!

  • Lol. Yes, she probably thought it was cute. I don't think she meant to act silly or anything bad
  • Ugh. Old people on Facebook...it's an epidemic!!!!

Maybe she isn't aware that isn't a term of endearment and is just really clueless?

Either way, I have to approve all tags of me before my friends see them. It doesn't help when the original poster and I have mutual friends, but it keeps the majority of my pals seeing only things I deem appropriate first.

  • does she know it has negative connotations?

  • I'd be embarrassed too if someone referred to me, especially in a public forum, as a "Baby Mama". I'd ask her to remove those tags if I were you.

  • Why don't you tell her you don't appreciate being called that and ask her to remove the tags?

  • I would definitely say something. It's rude and offensive. Change your settings so that you have to approve all tags?

I agree! Old people and fb. Lol sheesh!

  • I would either tell her myself "MIL, that phrase actually has negative connotations to it, would you mind using my name from now on" or better yet have her son do it "Mom, you really shouldnt label her that way, it can be seen as a negative term and you should really just use her name"

I agree completely with getting DH to do it! (that's pretty much how my relationship works with the IL's.. any problems we may have - maybe one or two in the past 5 years - have gone straight through him).

But thanks for the resume, OP ;)

  • I'm assuming she doesn't know the connotation.

Can you deal with it jokingly on FB by saying something like "Baby mama?!  Post some wedding pictures quick, before someone thinks I'm a teen mom cast member!"
