Has anyone thought about what kind of birth control you will start / go back to using once we get the all clear in Oct/Nov?
Breastfeeding mom's do you have a different take? I am pretty sure we are done at 2 kiddos (at least until we win the lotto), so am more concerned about BC this time around. Just wondering what you guys are doing...
Re: Birth Control?
We'll go back to condoms i think, or um...the pull out method. Worked for us in the past so I'll just go with it. I've never been on any type of hormone-based BC and it scares me too.
You can pretty much get pregnant almost right away even if you don't get your period for a while I hear so i guess we'll start using BC after i'm cleared.
This is exactly how we feel. We want our kids to be fairly close in age, so we'd probably use condoms for a few months and then "pull the goalie" and see what life brings us. Lord knows TTGP with a LO will be much different than trying for this one, so we'll see what life brings.
We use condoms until my cycle returns and I can chart my cycles. That has been around 7mo pp both times so far. We've done that for two kids, 5 years of marriage and have avoided pregnancy when we wished and achieved 2 out of 3 pregnancies the month we wished (first was a total surprise).
Since child spacing and allowing my body to fully recover and build nutrient stores is really important for us, I have never wanted to rely on the EBF method for the first 6 mo, though some women have been able to rely on that.
I was on the pill the first two months of our marriage but am very uncomfortable taking anything hormonal to alter my body anymore, so I'm glad we have another option.
I will most likely go on the IUD my doctor asked me about two visits ago. What type of birth control I was planing on going on after the baby arrived. I told her well not the pill that's for sure. She then asked if I planned on having more children in the near future I told her possibly but not for another 5 years. She then recommended the IUD. I responded with the question, will I still have a period because I want some type of BC that still allows me to flow with Mother Nature. So I will be choosing the IUD for my next BC plan.
After DD we decided to just see what happened. After all, I followed all of the guidelines for LAM (using breastfeeding as birth control). My period came back at 3 months, and I conceived this LO on the next cycle. Maintaining breastfeeding has been a big stress this pregnancy. Thankfully I've never lost my milk (which is a huge blessing), but I still don't want that stress again.
Since I'm not comfortable with hormonal birth control and we will likely try for 2u2 again, we are using condoms and charting once my cycle returns. Around the time DS is 9 months, we'll stop preventing.
This is pretty much where we are at. I figure we will probably use condoms for a year and then just take our chances. Definitely no more fertility treatments though so if we just end up with one child I will be grateful for what we have.
At some point though, I may suggest the snip snip just so I am not pregnant at 45. It is/was hard enough at 37.
This is probably my plan as well. I was on the patch for about 7 years but I don't want to go back on it. It gave me nasty migraines and I suspect any hormone based pills will probably do the same. I don't want to do an IUD or anything like that. It just freaks me out for some reason.
We are planning on one more, then H will get snipped.
LO then (2 days) and now (1 year)
We want a second, so DH will probably just pull out. Honestly, we didn't have sex all that much before we got pg, so I'm not too concerned about it. I definitely do not want to do anything hormonal.
After our second, I'll likely get the IUD to give us a few years to make sure we're officially done. Then I'll have to try to convince DH to get snipped.
IMPLANON! I had that and I absolutely loved it. I am not good with the pill (i.e. I got prego) and my fianc? refuses the pull out and condoms soooo I will be going back to the three year implanon. The good thing about it is that when we decide to have another it is very quick and easy to remove. The periods on it are amazing, when I actually had them since they weren't every month.
