With all the free universal pre-k programs out there and pre-k in public school, would you pay for your child's pre-k program? Is there any difference really in programs?
Do you mean preschool? Sorry for the dumb question but the school Lydia goes to has preschool 3, preschool 4 and Pre-K. None of which is free. I honestly didn't even think preschool/pre-k programs were free.
Where I live preschool through Pre-K (even in the public school districts) are not free; you have to pay to send your child. The only people who qualify for these programs for free are families on gov't assistance.

That is a very broad question. I mean, it definitely depends on the actual programs.
I completely agree.
We live on a tight budget and I would definitely pay for private pre-k if the program was a fair amount better. I don't think we have public pre-k though so we were already planning to pay for 2 years.

The only "free" preschool in my area is head start or for kids with special needs with the school district. We pay to get in the school district program because it's one of the best programs around. It would be cheaper for us to private, but the teachers at the school district are much more qualified and they have a great curriculum.
Florida has free pre-k for everyone. We might be moving to FL early next year, so I've been looking into some of the participating preschools (certain church preschools are included). In California, we'll be paying quite a bit for 3 days per week preschool. As long as we are comfortable with the free preschools in FL, we will send the girls. The potential school district we could be located to is awful, so we have to send DD1 to private school (DH is not a commuter).
We sent DS1 to a private pre-k program for a year, and DS2 is going to the same place this fall (but that's bc he won't be 3 in time for public pre-k).
DS1 just finished two years of public pre-k with pretty much the best pre-k teachers ever (though we paid for it, as it's an option in our district). I'm hoping DS2 will go to the same teacher next fall.
Call and visit the places you are interested in, that's the only way to figure things like this out.
My oldest went to Universal PreK. I considered the free program and looked into private ones, but the private ones were too expensive (5 1/2 days was $20K, full time was over $30K).
Now we've moved and the area we're in doesn't offer free preK in any venue, so we will be paying for private. We had the choice of paying tuition to the public school, but we love the private school she was in this year so we'll be sending her there because it's a great program and I don't know much about the public school's program. The private school is also less expensive than the public school and more hours in a week.

Where do you live that this is free?!?
I completely agree.

It really depends on where you live!
