Eggs & Peanut butter...

Who has tried eggs and peanut butter? LO has not had these yet because we don't have any Benedryl. Pedi said that for us to try eggs and peanut butter only if we had the Benedryl.

Re: Eggs & Peanut butter...

  • Pedi said he could have eggs but no peanut butter or honey.

    ETA:

Sorry - didn't answer your question.  DS has had eggs - hard boiled, scrambled, and fried.  He's funny about texture so I've had to feed him the eggs and they didn't bother him.  Pedi said no peanut butter until he's 2.

  • J has had eggs for breakfast everyday since we started solids at 6 months. We have not tried peanut butter yet.

  • I haven't done either. I know that things are changing with guidelines but I still feel like no one knows for sure. I figure there is plenty of other food to try and will wait a little longer to start those that are thought to be high allergen foods.
I think several people on the board have tried both with good results. So it really is your call on what to try.

  • I was thinking together! This morning DH made toast with peanut butter and the slapped a fried egg on top. He tried telling me it was good but, uh...no thanks!

LO has had eggs a number of times. We won't be doing peanut butter anytime soon.

I agree.  I have a friend whose pedi said no strawberries and mine said go for it.   Same thing with egg and peanut butter.

  • We have done eggs, first started with just the yolks and mixed with formula for scrambled eggs. Now she just eats the whole egg, the way we eat it.

No peanut butter yet, I'm scared!

  • LO's had em both. Im going with the most recent research which says the earlier the exposure the less likely to have a reaction.

We have not had honey...but thats because of botulism not possible allergic reaction

  • DD has had eggs, a little while ago.  I don't fix them regularly, but she had them out at a restaurant (and loved them).  I don't see myself giving her peanut butter before her 1st birthday, partly because she only has 2 teeth and isn't big on textured foods & chewing.  I'm not really worried about allergies, though, in our case.

  • We haven't tried either. Her pedi said to continue to avoid nuts and peanuts but we can try eggs.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • I've done both and he reacted really badly to the peanut butter. Full body hives, fever, thankfully no throat closing/staggered breath. He loves eggs.

  • DS has been eating eggs for weeks, he loves them. We have not tried peanut butter yet.

  • DD has had egg yolk. No egg white, peanut butter, or strawberries yet. That's what the pedi suggested, although current research is conflicting. I think peanut butter can also be choking hazard.
  • We haven't done either.  DH is super allergic to all nuts and legumes (the man lives without hummus!  And pesto!)  He also had an egg intolerance as a child, which he grew out of.  We are also fairly certain that Charlotte has some dairy issues.

I'm going to try allergenic foods with her for the first time just before doctor appointments, but not until after she hits one year.

  • DS has had both. He's been eating eggs since 6 months old. He doesn't mind them, but they aren't one of his favorite foods. I gave him peanut butter at 9 months old. He love PB&J sandwiches. He didn't have a problem with either food.

  • DS has had both.  Doc says now "they" only say to wait on honey.

DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.

  • He's had eggs, but not pb. I have a severe pb allergy, so I'm nervous to try it just yet. I'll have to ask at his next appt.

  • My MIL gave DS eggs a few months back and I just got a text message today from my baby sitter informing me that since DS didn't eat what I sent (he "spit it out") she gave him PB & J.

Thankfully he didn't have a reaction. grrr

  • I have given eggs for about a month now.  He loves them.  Peanut butter is definitely one of those I wait on although we have no peanut allergies in our family at all on either side.  Also, I think it might be too thick for him anyway.

  • DS has had eggs and no adverse reactions so far. Usually he has the yolk scrambled but DH has made him the full egg a few times. No peanut butter or honey. I'm hesitant with the PB because DH had an peanut allergy when he was younger and he still has reactions to walnuts and pecans. We have tried strawberries but DS doesn't like them much so I can't tell if he has had a reaction to them.
  • Neither I think. I let her luck some peanut butter off my finger once but it was a microscopic amount. I think that only establishes that she doesn't have a lifethreatening allergy. We also don't have any Benadryl on hand. Is there infant Benadryl? Or do you just use children's? Adult? How much?

  • My sister gave J casserole with egg in it, and luckily no reaction. She thought we had already tried it because we had given him lasagna. It didnt have egg in it. We will also not be doing anything besides scrambled, hard boiled, or omelets for straight up eggs. Fully cooked for us.

We have a big family history of peanut and treenut allergies in my family so I'm holding off. One day I gave him a baby strawberry bar, and he broke out in hives. It was made in a factort with nuts. If trace amounts could've done that to him, I'm scared to try more.

  • DD has eggs for breakfast a couple times of week. Same with peanut butter.  We spread a thin layer of PB on toast.  She loves it.

  • We've done both. The only thing we're avoiding is honey.

The Chief of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology at the children's hospital I work at says no reason to delay any foods if there's no family history if allergies. And delaying may even increase development of allergies.

  • We have had eggs but watch him closely each time to make sure no reaction.

See my post below about the peanut butter.  My mother gave him some yesterday. The pediatrician wasn't happy. No more until after 1 year old.

Exactly, that's what our pedi said.

I was told to get the liquid Benedryl...they have cherry flavor. Also, they told me 1/2t every 6 hours...that is for up to 22lbs, I believe.
