Trouble TTC

"Tightening" the Thyroid?

Since we are about to go on Clomid for the first time, my doctor wants me to take thyroid medication to get my thyroid "tight." My thyroid numbers are completely normal, she says, but she said, "we like it to be tight, if you're going to get pregnant."

Uh, huh? Did any of you need to do this?

Re: "Tightening" the Thyroid?

  • It was 4.76. She said that it was within the normal range and I shouldn't be concerned, but that she wanted it under 2.

While some labs still use the old range of under 5, you're pretty close to that and most endocrinologists now recommend that TSH should be under 3 even for people who are not TTC. My suggestion would be to get it retested along with T4 and antibodies before making any decisions, but it doesn't sound crazy that your doctor is suggesting medication if it continues to be on the higher side. Good luck.

Hmm. Mine was under 5 but well over 2. My RE didn't say anything about it.
