Babies: 6 - 9 Months

DD pulling own hair out

My LO is 7 months old and has recently started pulling her hair out. She will play with it for a second and then make a fist and pull out as much as she can grab. As soon as I notice her doing it, I take her hand down and say something along the lines of "oh no don't do that, thats owy". I'm just wondering if anyone else dealt with this and if there is anything else I can be doing to help my baby stop pulling out her hair.

Re: DD pulling own hair out

  • My cousin did this when we were little, since she was a baby. She did it well into age 9 or 10, if I remember correctly. It got to the point where she would do it in her sleep, and constantly had a bald spot on the side of her head. I will ask her mom what they did to fix it!

  • Thank you both for your input! I would love to hear about how your cousin's mom broke the habbit. We were at the doctor today and I brought it up, but he made it seem like it wasn't a big deal- I guess because he's not the one seeing his baby pull out handfuls of hair! He said that his daughter had a habbit of pulling her ear as she fell asleep and would wake up screaming because her ear hurt because she couldn't understand that she was causing the pain herself. He made it seem like my LO is just exploring and doesn't really understand she's pulling it out and she will stop eventually. I guess we will see!
