August 2012 Moms

and another AHHHHH!!!!!

After deliberating for weeks about where we want to go for our first ever REAL vacation (not visiting family), we FINALLY chose!  AND we booked our flight so this is the real deal, folks!  No turning back now!

We are going to Cape Cod!!!! I am beyond thrilled!  I can't wait!  I am giddy!  Ahhh!!

If anyone has any must sees for me there or in Boston (we'll probably spend a day there) or in NYC (we'll be flying into Newark so we can see a few sights there since this is kind of once in a lifetime for us), LET ME KNOW!

  • Yay! Sounds fun! I have no advice. NYC is the furthest I've been north. Well Dubuque IA is technically a little more north and I've been there.
When do you guys go?! I bet the kids are super excited.

Boston Aquarium is awesome, but my cousin is a member and said they were doing some rennovations on their big tank, so I'd check before you go.  Also...north end has amazing Italian food and pastries.   NYC?  Empire State Building for sure, metropolitan museum of art.  Cape Cod-I don't really remember much from my trips there, but Molly could help you there, I'm sure!

  • Good for you!!  You will have such a great time!
  • Have fun! We're headed back there in a August as well but mine is family trip cause that's where I'm from yo! lol.

In Boston there is a restaurant called Finale (I hope it's still there). It is all desserts. Stupidly expensive but delicious. You should go. Make reservations or you won't get in.

  • I have no advice, but I just came to hi-jack your post to say...

Every time I see this picture of you and Emery, I just die. It is seriously one of the most precious pictures ever!

    Have fun on your vacation!

In Boston I would go to the Museum of Science.  Your older two will like it and there's a section just for toddlers.  There's also the "frog pond" (it's a shallow pool kids can swim in), swan boats, and a carousel on the Common.  Your older ones would probably enjoy a duck tour.

Where on CC are you staying?  We like the Cape Cod Children's Museum in Mashpee and Zooquarium in Yarmouth (I think), but we mostly just go to the beach.  I will be down there the last week in August!

LucyD, we will HAVE to get together one day!!

So far we've just booked our flight, we are working out the details in the days to come.  We'll be therer from Aug 20- 26th.  We are thinking about staying in Hyannis but considered staying in a little hotel in Provincetown.  Leaning towards Hyannis though because we want to ferry over to MV for a day and drive to Boston the last day and maybe go up to Plymouth and the drive will be much less if we are more central.

What beach do you usually go to?!  I have NO idea what to choose!  I anticipate the beach being a huge part of this!

Ooooh, so exciting! I can tell you all about NYC! I think I'm the only NYC bumpie. First, I do not recommend the Empire State Building. It's extremely busy, and honestly not that great once you get to the top. What we've always done when people have visited us is taken them to the top of Rockefeller Center. It's called "Top of the Rock". The view is way better, IMO, because the one side you see Central Park and then the other side you get an awesome view of the Empire State Building. Plus, in my experience it has never been as crowded. Of course, Central Park is a great visiting spot. The bottom right corner of the park is the best place to enter. It's at 5th Avenue and 59th Street. Also, right outside the entrance is the FAO Schwarz toy store. Your kids will love it in there. Plus, there is a big piano to dance on that's super fun. Oh, and also outside that entrance to Central Park is a Belgian Waffle stand called Wafel and Dinges. It's very delicious!!!!! Ok, I'll write more later. DS just fell back asleep! Cool
Thank you for this Carolyn!!   I'll show my H this, he was really excited about that toy store, ha!

I'm sure I'll have a billion questions for you and we work out the details. Smile

  • I LOOOOVE the Cape! SO's family has a house in Dennis so we will be spending lots of time there this summer.  We just spent our first weekend of the summer there last weekend and we had a blast.  If you choose the Dennis-Yarmouth area definitely try to get to Mayflower Beach. It is beautiful and has the perfect little tide pools for LO's during low tide.  Pirate's Cove mini golf is awesome and would be perfect for your older kids!
