August 2012 Moms

Hot mamas

...temperature wise, that is. Though I'm sure you're all very sexy as well.

It's officially triple digit time down here in the ATX, and I am struggling to think of activities to do with the wee baby Aggie. Suggestions? We go to the pool from time to time, but I try to avoid the middle of the day death rays. There's only so much sunblock can do against those wavy, particle-y muthafuckas.

So, yeah. If you live in an oven, what do you do during the day?

  • I run to the car as fast as I can, before the sun's death rays get us, then we drive to Target/mall, where it's nice and air conditioned.

  • Do you have an indoor play place?  We go to ours (https://lifeservicessystem.org/deannasplayhouse/) probably once a week.  Obviously Charlotte isn't big/old enough for a lot of the toys, but they have plenty for little ones.  Plus, it gives her unlimited crawling around space!

Also, most children's museums have places for crawlers/early walkers.  We haven't been to ours yet because it's about 40 minutes away, but it's on my list!  It looks like the Austin Children's Museum has this: https://www.austinkids.org/Exhibits/Permanent-Exhibits/Rising-Star-Ranch.aspx

This is what I as going to say - ours has a great infant/toddler area. Most offer a yearly pass that pays for itself in a couple visits.

  • I avoid the middle of the day and tend to just stay inside at home. I'll go places in the mornings or afternoon. We go to the mall and such for now. We have a children's museum to go to as well but haven't gone yet.

  • Maybe go to the library for book reading time or join a My Gym or Music/jamboree type class for babies.  I know over here we have this place called Amaya Papaya where they have fun stuff for babies to do.  Looks like this:

Maybe find a place like that!

  • Ugh. The heat is my enemy. Triple digits would be the worst thing ever. I'm sorry!!!
Everyone has made good suggestions already. Perhaps setting up play dates if you know other moms around with wee ones. That way the time seems to pass by faster and babies play while mommies hang. I'd probably just go where there is AC.

  • I bought a kiddie pool and put it in the shade on my front porch. When it got too hot for that, I moved it into the kitchen. They only need a little bit of water, it's a lot cooler that way too. When we're done, I just dump the water out the back door.

  • I'm still new to this rediculousness, so I'm following, BUT, you could plan to meet your friend from Houston in Brenner for ice cream ;-)
