GTKY: Getting back into it..

So someone else made a post that made me think of this, but do you ladies have anything, hobby, sport, past time, etc that you've had to give up while pregnant, or just haven't had the time for, that you are looking forward to getting back into as we all get close to the end of our pregnancies? Drinking like a champ doesn't count!! Haha jk;D

I for one, cannot wait to get back on a horse. I have ridden competitively basically since I was born and for some reason I didn't realize when I was pregnant I wouldn't be able to ride, at all. I had in my head I'd be able to ride like the first six months, yea definitely not. I am kind of dreading how out of shape I will have gotten in these nine short months! And I am scared to ask my MW just how long I have to wait after labor before I can ride, given riding is a little hard on the crotch area and probably not too comfortable for a while if you have any stitches down there!

Anyone else??:D What was your thang prior to becoming pregnant?

  • I cannot wait to run again. Walking is nice but I miss getting the runners high

  • Honestly, I'll be happy just to be able to sweep my floors without getting winded or having to take so many breaks. I know that's not a hobby but I am excited about that.

  • Mine would be running. Not that I'm hard core by any means but I do miss getting out there and running a couple of miles. I signed up for my first post baby 5k last week. It's in October and I'm super excited.

I haven't been able to do much gardening this year. I have a bunch of small things in containers, but my actual ground space is totally neglected since it's so difficult for me to get up and down from my knees. It's just a forest of tangled weeds, which is actually kinda pretty in its own way- but not at all impressive like the pond, rockscapes, and bright flowers I usually have going.

I'm guessing once the baby comes, the last thing I'll be worried about is weeding, so this year is pretty much a wash as far as the garden goes. Oh well :)

I've never been much of a drinker, however I have been craving a fruity alcoholic drink lately. It could be from all the work stress as well.

I can't wait to get back to working out for real. It felt so good to get in a good sweat and feel giddy with all the endorphins being released into my system.

The power waddles I do right now barely keep me mobile.

Sleeping on my stomach, what a treat that will be as well.

Most of my other hobbies I've kept up thus far.

  • Mine might be a little strange, but I can't wait to start volunteering again. I am very active in my state bar association and organize lots of short term pro bono events each year, but had to take a break when I was put on bed rest at 30 weeks. If I can make it work by either bringing LO with me or finding childcare, I'm hoping to volunteer at least a few hours a week at the local Legal Aid office or courthouse clinic during ML. I miss using my brain!
  • I know you said "drinking like a champ" doesn't count...but my husband and I enjoy brewing small batch craft beers in our home brewery aka garage. While I've still been able to help brew and plan interesting beers, I do miss being able to do the extensive taste testing and comparing of our different beers. I know a little beer is not a big deal, but we also brew sours which use bacteria cultures in them. I wanted to error on the side of caution and avoid tasting anything too funky. Looking forward to getting back to that hobby that we both really enjoy!

  • I think this is the first spring/summer since 6th grade that I haven't played on a softball team of some sort. (and I'm almost 33!) I miss it sooo much. Will have to plan baby #2 around softball season haha.

I also miss my bodypump classes. Can't wait to get back in shape!

  • Same as some others...running!! I kept up with it for awhile but then it got too uncomfortable.

Pretty much just working out in general.I kept up with walking and lighter work-outs, but it makes me feel like a slacker. I can't wait to start weight-lifting again and get back into shape! I hate feeling like I can't lift anything without people yelling at me! lol

  • Running, oh how i miss it!

Running... faster. Lol, ever since becoming pregnant, I've been able to maintain running, just at a much much slower pace.  I am waiting to sign up for a half marathon in October, just in case I have to get a Csection.  It will put me at about 10 weeks post partum, and hopefully give me 6 weeks training time.  I am nervous that my body won't be able to go as fast as I used to, but hoping that hard work will pay off in the long run.

Also, I miss waterskiing down at the lake!

  • Does hot sex count?? Kidding. Sort of. I want to lay out by the pool ON MY STOMACH. I have a weird half tan thing going on even though I have a float that I'm able to lay tummy side down on but I miss my lounge chairs and the hot sun. Also, being able to get in my car and go to my grandfather's farm an hour and a half away. DH (understandably) hasn't wanted me driving up there alone in a few weeks.
  • Bike riding! DH and I used to love taking our bikes down to the beach or the farmer's market on the weekends. I haven't ridden one in a long time for obvious reasons. Hey, my balance sucks enough when I'm walking sometimes!

That and getting back into the kitchen true chef style. Not worrying about the heat, or bending, or my swollen feet, and just doing what I love again.

I also cannot wait to exercise at the gym regularly. I still drop DD off at the childcare playroom there sometimes and go sit on a bench lol. But I miss working out and walking up a flight of stairs without getting winded.

  • Everyone's talking about exercise and I have to hang my head in shame. Exercise for me is walking from the couch to the fridge. All of you mama's are motivating me to get an exercise routine after baby is born!

Insanity and running.  I can't wait to get back into both!  I know I will have to ease back into them because I kept up with working out for a bit, but the past 5 months, I didn't do anything!
  • We normally do a lot of camping during the summer but that's just not happening with me pregnant. Can you imagine sleeping in a tent on the ground and getting up to pee 4 times a night...outside? No thank you. And we won't be camping with an infant either so maybe in a few years.

Also, I'm a big wine fan and we get shipments from our favorite wineries when they release new stuff. It's so depressing when those shipments show up. I have a taste of my husband's from time to time, but I'm ready for my own glass whenever I want!

  • I can't wait to go kayaking again. My life vest is too small and I can't pull myself in and out of the kayak currently.
  • I can't wait for a good workout. I miss boot camp, hot yoga... we still hike, but it's annoying to be out of breath and have weird pains rather than just enjoy the scenery. I'm kind of with PP. I'm excited for sex that doesn't involve gymnastics and swollen parts. Total TWP, but I really miss wearing my ring! I love it, and was so sad when it got tight. I really thought that wouldn't happen to me. Finally, wine, beer, a delicious cocktail, but these things will come.
  • I want to go on water slides with my older kids, they opened new wet n wild here. I just sit on chair and kids come check in with me. Also, a theme park we love going to different theme parks our next trip is planned in Nov. to Knotts Berry Farm. My son took up roller hockey which was my sport while I haven't skating in awhile I wanted to get out the with him. I look funny giving him pointers with my big o belly!! Even shopping sucks...to long at the mall and I get contractions and swelling :(

I'm just ready to be able to do things on my own - every time I need something moved/lifted i have to call on DH - I'm the type of girl who carries every bag of groceries in with one trip to avoid multiple runs and I hate having to ask my husband for help!

  • I have missed running as well...ever since 6 weeks I have had horrible nausea and vomiting and it has kept me from doing anything physical.

Husband and I love wine tasting and beer tasting...wineries and breweries are a lot of fun for us and I would like to get back to that as well...but in moderation with breastfeeding and all.

Sounds like we have a lot of runners in our group.  I am going to start training for a half after I am cleared to exercise again.  Can't WAIT!!!

Eating. I can't wait to eat whatever I want without acid reflux! And eat more than 2 bites before I'm stuffed.

And running. Gosh I miss running :/

Yes to both of these. I do miss being able to run a couple miles after work in my neighborhood. It's great weather for it right now too. DH gets to run and I always feel jealous...oh, and the occasional beer he gets to drink. I can't wait to drink a pint of Manny's.

  • Another runner here. Absolutely love running competitively and ran my last race a half marathon at 15 weeks. Can't wait to get back to it; I've already signed up for a January half :

  • Running and gardening,

I love horseback riding as well, although its more of a casual hobby at this point.

    K & M married 10.8.2011 *** BFP 7.17.2012, EDD 3.21.2013, Miscarriage at 6 wks 3 days *** BFP #2 11.7.2012, beautiful Tess born 7.11.2013
  • Can't wait to get back to the gym and start training again. Also yoga and Pilates. I miss being flexible. After being on bed rest since January it is gonna be challenging and I am up for it.

  • I am so ready for an ice cold Summer Shandy beer. Does that count?

  • I am soooo looking forward to getting back into the gym.  I meant to keep up with exercising throughout my pregnancy, but m/s hell the first half kept me out of the gym, and I just haven't gotten the motivation to go back.  Not to mention the fact that walking my dog feels super strenuous right now, I doubt I'd get much accomplished anyway.  Can't wait to start pilates equipment classes again too.

Does shopping count as a hobby I miss?  I want to burn my maternity clothes right now.  I used to LOVE shopping, but right now I'm just making what I have work these last couple weeks.

There's so much I look forward to once this pregnancy phase is over.  I will never take my regular body for granted again!

  • Not quite a hobby, but my best friend's wedding is in August and I am the maid (matron?) Of honor. So I can't wait to have more energy (though with not sleeping much I might not I guess) to help with more.

Also sweeping and mopping, and vaccuming as pps said, did it today and my back is killing me, looks like DH will have  to do it till the baby comes, won't be up to my standards but it'll suffice :)
