Twin or Full bed??

We converted our daughters bed from a crib to a toddler bed a few months ago. She is going to be 3 tomorrow and we are ready to move her to a big girl bed. Her crib converts, but it converts to a full. What are you opinions on a twin vs a full? My husband and I both grew up on a twin bed, and we are not sure wheter we are going to have another baby or not that would need the crib. Did you get a twin and wished you had gotten a full or vice versa?

DD1 has a twin, but when DD2 outgrows the crib we will get a queen or full for DD1 and DD2 will get the twin. The bigger bed will nice if the girls want to sleep together at times or for a guest to use.

It all hinges on room size for us. Here goes...When DS vacated the crib for DD, he went straight to a twin bed with rails. He did fine. When it's DD's turn for a bed, she will get DS's twin bed. DS will then get the full size bed from the convertable crib b/c his room is bigger. I don't think DD will mind for a few years that she has a smaller bed.

DH and I grew up in twin beds but space was limited in city row homes. My parents only had a full bed!

My oldest has a full since it can fit in his room, and my younger guys sleep in twin beds in their shared room. We swap around the rooms depending on visitors and I am glad we have the full bed available.

  • DS has a full and I am glad because he has nightmares and two to three times a week I find myself in his bed.  The snuggling and story time is a huge benefit.

THe girls share a queen and we are about to redo their room and we will likely get them twins since they insist on sharing a room and it is not a huge room. DD#2 is a wanderer and occasionally DD#1 calls me at night to move her from her side.  I hope a twin isn't going to result in a girl on the floor...

  • My girls both have twins and I honestly don't see the need for a child to have a full size bed.  My girls (now 5 and 7 years) barely use much of the twin size beds.  The amount of stuffed animals on their beds takes up way more space than either of them.  I didn't have a full size bed until I graduated from college and bought it myself (and moved to a queen size bed fast after that).  If you have the space and already own the bed that you would be happy with until the child leaves for college - way spend the money on changing it but if you don't have the space or will buy something new soon either way - I would go with a twin and do a trundle bed or bunk bed for when they are older and have friends sleep over (but if you do a bunk, please don't let your LO sleep on the top until she is way older - just take the ladder out of the room and block anyway to get up on it)/.  My girls have trundles and we love it.  Both beds are twin and they are totally fine.  My 12 year old niece just moved to a full size bed last summer when they moved and she had to get a new bed (had a loft bed in the old house).

My husband and i FINALLY traded my full sized mattress from when i was a teenager to a king.  so in a word, no.  i will not be giving my kids a full sized mattress until they are teenagers, likely.

    What now?

So because you and your DH decided to stay in a smaller bed well into your adulthood your children will have to as well?

    OP,

This is a decision that should be based on room size and wallet, not what other people think "toddlers should not be allowed to have because they are toddlers not grown up."

My DD is in a junior single loft because of room size and house design constraints.  I wanted all of her toys in her bedroom because we do not have a playroom area.  But if we did have space and I found a really full or even queen set, I would go for it.  At the very least, when DD went off to college, I would have a bedroom set for guests and at best, I would let her take the set when she moved out on her own.

  • We got a full and I literally just finished putting on his bedding:/ I think if you have the room for it, go for it. If not, a twin is fine.

  • I would have preferred a full, but the room is so small, so DD is getting a twin.

  • We kept LO in his nursery, which is the smaller room, for right now- so we got him a twin bed.

Eventually when have another child- he will move into the guest room and that room will become his.   He will get the queen size bed that is already in the  there and we will redecorate accordingly.

Then the new baby will get the nursery and crib and eventually twin bed.

  • We got DD a full so we don't have to buy her a new one again. I'm glad because the amount of stuffed animals she requires in her bed hardly leaves room for her lol
