Have any of you done the 3-day potty training method? I started today with my DS and he is doing great. The article I read about it said to do day and night training together. I don't know that my DS is ready or nighttime training. He still wakes up really wet in the morning. He has a difficult time going back to sleep at night if he is woken up or wakes up on his own. I feel like it would be harder on him with me waking him up or grabbing him if he stirs and placing him on the potty. Any suggestions? Should I just skip the nighttime right now or go full force?
Re: 3-day potty training
We did the 3 day potty training method on babycenter, which suggests using diapers or pull ups at night.
Thanks. I ended up doing a pull-up last night. He woke up crying for me this morning and as soon as I went in he was telling me he had to go. He tried but his pill-up was already wet. Good to know it is developmental, I was wondering if it was because they don't have much control while they are sleeping.
Yeah we took some of the methods from the 3-day potty training and DD was potty trained within a few days, longer than 3 though maybe like 5ish. Although at nights we kept her in pull ups mainly because she was still taking her sippy (just water) to bed and we were trying to end that.
Well after like 2 weeks we noticed she just all of a sudden was waking up completely dry in the morning. When we noticed that we started really watching when she went to sleep and woke up and even though she has to have her sippy to go to bed she wasn't actually drinking it throughout the night anymore so she'd wake up dry. Although if she doesn't go to the bathroom RIGHT when she wakes up she'll have an accident, but that's rare though. *knock on wood* Also what we have done is just got her stool and a potty seat that goes on the actual toilet instead of using the potty. We skipped potties because they were more like toys to her. So if she wakes up in the night she'll go on her own to the bathroom (it's right outside her room), use her stool to turn on the light and go. I just have to make sure she wipes good.
But that's just how we did it, test different things out. You might just have to wait it out as well and continue using pull ups at night for a while. If he's drinking anything at night that's more than likely the reason he's not waking up dry.
i agree with this 100%. Ds1 was a little over 2.5 when we potty trained him and we used pull ups at night until he was dry most of the time. It's really not their fault if they can't hold their pee all night and I'm too lazy to get up multiple times per night and or change sheets daily. We just pt ds2 this past weekend and are using the same approach.
This. Pedi also said for some kids that is 8. We use diapers at night. DD1 has been fully day time potty trained since 2 and always wakes up very wet in the morning... We've even tried the no drinks after 6pm and 18 trips to the bathroom before bed, still full diaper. DS initiated his first potty training at 18m, but wasn't fully day time potty trained until 26m; however, he hardly ever wakes up with a wet diaper. Because him and DD are so close in age I still put him in one at night so she doesn't get self conscious and regress at all. So that was the long answer... In short, nah, don't try to do it all at once.
Thanks everyone
My DS is doing great. He has been damp many times before making it to the potty, but I know that will come with time. He is struggling a little with the BMs though, but again I know he will get it. The last 2 mornings he has been waking up dry, but we are still doing pull-ups for the time being. I would say he was ready to be trained because I never thought he would take to it so easily.
