Hair

Ok ladies, am I the only one losing hair while pregnant? I mean I'm losing so much hair and with my other three I didn't lose hair till after the baby was born. I'm thinking if maybe I should bring this up to my OB and see what he says about it. I was reading on Dr. Google that it could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency or something to do with your estrogen levels. Also thyroid was brought up. Just wanted to see if anyone else was going through this?

Re: Hair

  • I would say something. It might be thyroid.  I know that when I first found out I was pg my thyroid was all out of wack and I started losing hair. It?s always better to be safe than sorry!

  • Not this time, but with my first it came out in handfuls. It sucks. The only deficiency I had with my first was my iron levels were too low and my hemoglobin. I just thought it was part of pregnancy.

  • I'm losing hair by the handful also.  With my first two my hair got so thick and looked so great, this time I think I might be bald by the time the baby gets here.  I have an appointment on July 10th and I am going to mention it then just to see what they say.

  • I am also, my OB said its thyroid related.
  • I was losing hair when my ferritan levels stored iron was too low. Mine was at a 9 and the dermatologist said anything above 50 is good. I'm almost 17 weeks and I take an extra iron supplement every day. It seems to be working. You could ask OB if they checked your thyroid when they did blood work. I know that's a cause for hair loss. You have to ask them to check your ferritan levels. It's not a standard test. You can have normal hemoglobin levels and still have low iron stores.
  • Iodized salt and shrimp help your thyroid function properly. It may help!
  • Thanks ladies! I will mention it to my OB when I see him Friday. I'm sure its just another crazy pregnancy thing that I got this time around rather than the other three pregnancies.
