It is too freaking hot...

To wear a bleeping nursing cover!!! Is anyone else dealing with this??! I live in an area that will be 118 degrees this week, and today I was nursing at my in laws on the porch while the kids swam and both me and LO were DYING under that thing!!! I finally said screw it and pulled it off, positioned LO in a way to cover me, and guess what? No one had a CLUE I was still nursing him!! My FIL even came over and started talking to the baby having no clue he was breastfeeding haha!

I have never nursed in public without my titty tent so I'm feeling pretty accomplished tonight!!

  • omg LO haaaaaaaates being so hot and sweaty under that thing! It's the worst. I wish I was coordinated enough to secret nurse, but I'd probably end up getting arrested for indecent exposure

  • I haven't mastered the "secret nursing" either.. And my little guy also hates the nursing cover.

  • Good job! I used a cover at first with DD but I have never used one with DS. It's breastfeeding people. It's how babies eat. If someone finds it offensive that I'm feeding my child, they can look away.

  • Eh, don't use it. IMO, wearing a huge blanket around your neck is way more of an announcement that "HEY! I'M DOING SOMETHING UNDER HERE!" than just holding the baby. Most people won't notice the latter.

  • What kind if tops and or bras do you guys use? Even with a nursing top, where it is loose and you can just slip it under your boob, I feel like I'm still whipping out my entire boob to nurse. Also sometimes my little guy flails around like a lunatic and I just feel like it would be a boob spectacular! I wish I was less self conscious... I will nurse anywhere I need to, but not brave enough for free boob yet!

  • I have found the secret is to lift up the shirt and lift up the bra, instead of flopping the boob over the top of the bra and shirt. Any bra works but you need a loose fitting shirt. I also always wear my Bella band still under everything, so that when I lift my shirt to nurse, my midriff is covered. When you lift your shirt and latch the baby, your shirt will fall right over your boob and cover everything that baby isn't covering. Once I figured this out and stopped flopping my boob over my top and bra, things got a lot easier!!!

Ugh, I hear you! We were at the lake this weekend with the in-laws and I HATED using the cover. I ended up using a light swaddle cloth most of the time and just covered my boob/his face and left the rest of him hanging out. I don't think I could nurse in front of my FIL without covering up.. it jsut weirds me out.

  • The other day I was wearing a v neck tshirt and was able to unhook the nursing bra and just slide the V neck over... Bam the boob was out! Nursing him just looked like I was rocking him to sleep!

  • I've never used a nursing cover. Even trying to nurse in my ring sling is too warm when it's hot outside.

This is how I feel.  DD HATES the cover, or a blanket, ect.  When I'm around friends and family I have no problem just whipping it out.  However I'm still nervous to nurse in public by myself.
