During the school year I asked our nanny to change their diapers every 2-3 hours. She kept detailed logs for us, and after I changed them when they got up around 6:30, they would also get changed at about 9, 11, and 2. Then I'd usually change them around 4 or 5, and then a new diaper at bedtime, around 7. So that's about 6 changes per day. Now that I'm home, I do it less, more like 4 or 5 a day. Am I slacking? Or was I having her change them too often? (Of course, I change them as soon as I notice poop).
Re: How often do you change diapers?

I was just thinking about this today. A normal day for us is change when she wakes, after 1st dirty diaper, after nap, at daycare (usually only 1) and then at bedtime.
The random extra diaper change happens, but that is the "normal" schedule.
This, except "at daycare" is "after going outside", since I SAH.

Every 2ish hours during awake time, plus right away when she poops. I wake her up during the week at 5:30am and she goes to bed between 7:30-8pm. We average about 6-7 changes per day.
I was actually just thinking about this because I needed to ship some diapers to Italy ahead of our trip. I sent 60, which should last 10 days, I'm going to pack another 30ish, plus 15 overnights. I figure that half of her suitcase is going to be filled with diapers and wipes. LOL

We use about 5 diapers per day. One when she wakes, 3 while at DC and one before bed, sometimes one extra one. We go based on when she's wet and not a time. She usually stays dry from the 6:30am - 10 or 11am and then that diaper may last until after nap at 3:30 and she gets a new one at that time and may stay dry until bed time.
I never asked my DCP to change based on time because I never had a concern that she wasn't being changed often enough. The total amount of diapers changes from day to day and she tells me how many times she pooped while there and that has always been good enough.
