Anyone else wonder what the heck happened to these two dinosaur staples from childhood and why now all you see is brachiosaurus and pteranodon ?.??? It has been bugging me and I finally looked it up, apparently brontosaurus was a hoax discredited in 1974 (yet i was learning about it in the late 70s and early 80s...) and there is no such thing as a pterodactyl either ...kinda like how Pluto isn't a planet. I feel like elementary school science was a big sham! Lol.
Re: Brontosaurus and pterodactyl ...
I will have to pay attention to Dino Dan on TV tonight.
I'm still mad Pluto is a star. Why couldn't it be Uranus?!
LOL, me too!!
Well, I have no real knowledge on the rainbow subject but I feel like the 3 primaries & the 3 secondaries should be the rainbow. Throw indigo in there & then it seems like you should also have all the other in between colors (whatever they're called? tertiary?). But I'm sure there is some scientific color argument about indigo that I'm not aware of.
Weird that the all knowing internet (haha) said bronto was was a hoax of some sort (something about some paleontologist putting the wrong head on a different dinosaur body intentionally for competitive reasons?). As for pterodactyl, I don't really get why it has been eliminated completely from all the books & stuff since it is an actual dinosaur or group or whatever... oh well. I'm all good w/ the pterosaurs and pteranodons....
Wow, I didn't know!
All I know is I feel like a dunce when trying to read ds' dinosaur books. I can't pronounce those names to save my life. Phonics and I aren't BFFs.
find the ones with the pronunciation in them...super helpful:)
I need to because my poor kids will start school with some jacked up dinosaur names if I'm not careful.
dinosaur train helps too. Lol -actually I think our dinosaur train A to Z dinosaur book has the pronunciations now that I think about it...
