2nd Trimester

doppler?

Did anyone buy a doppler to hear the heartbeat at home?  Was it worth it?  Which one did you get?  How many weeks were you when you were able to hear the heartbeat with your doppler?

Thanks!

:)

Re: doppler?

  • No.

Some say that it is. Others I've talked to that get them say that if they have a hard time finding baby's HB they panic.

Both times we've had the best luck finding the HB at the OB's office after 14 weeks. I had anterior placenta with both pregnancies though. My babies like to run from the doppler, so I chose not to get one for home. I was worried that it would cause me stress.

  • Yep, and I don't regret buying it for one minute.

I got the sonoline B doppler and have consistently found my LO's HB since 10 weeks. Some women have a harder time finding their LO's though.

  • I was given one by a friend when she finished with it.  We didn't use it at first for fear of inducing anxiety, but use it now daily or EOD since I was recently discharged from a lengthy hospitalization where the HBs were checked 3x/day and I got used to the comfort of hearing them.  I also got very used to knowing where to find them :)

  • I also got a Sonoline B.  I got it at about 13 weeks due to some bleeding.  Rather than panicking for 24 hours and going to the hospital I got it to ease my mind.  There were a couple times I couldn't find the HB but i didn'tpanic.  I'm now almost 19 weeks and sometimes he just swims away so I can't get him consistantly.  The farther along you are the easier the HB is to find though.

  • I did at 14 weeks after having some bad anxiety leading up to the a/s and before I could feel kicks. I bought the Angel Sounds off Amazon for 30 bucks. Not the highest of quality but it works and put my mind at ease immediately.

  • I ordered the Sonoline B after some spotting and I love it.  I was about 13 weeks along when it came in and we were able to find the heartbeat right away, having a full bladder when searching for baby helps.

  • A friend of mine gave me her Sonoline B Doppler when I was around 8 weeks. I've never had any issues finding LOs heartbeat. I used it, maybe, once every two weeks until I was able to feel him kick. It just gave me piece of mind and I was greatful that my friend passed the Doppler down to me.

Same here.  Actually, I think I heard it even earlier.  And I also have an anterior placenta. Only issue is that the digital reading of HR is not really accurate.  You should just count yourself for 15 sec x 4.

  • No, we didn't get one. I figured I would stress out unnecessarily if I couldn't find the heartbeat. Plus, I thought it was an added expense that I would rather spend on something FOR the baby. I did, however, read somewhere that shortly you should be able to hear the heartbeat with a stethoscope. As a FTM, I have no idea if this is true, but if so, it seems that either the stethoscope would be a less expensive option OR I would think it would be less difficult to find the heartbeat with the Doppler.

  • Yes, I also got the Sonoline one. We use it only about once a week as a check in and can typically find both babies heart beats fairly easily.

But if you are going to worry and stress if you can't find them than I would NOT purchase one.

  • I've lost pregnancies in the past so I got one as reassurance. You can rent one at babybeat.com for like $30 a month. It just makes me feel better knowing that everything is ok in between visits. We could hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks and I got my doppler at about 12 weeks.
  • I bought the Sonoline B Doppler around 8 weeks because I was having serious anxiety after a series of miscarriages.  I found my baby's heartbeat and still use it to check in on baby when a nervous feeling comes my way. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.. just helps calm those fears and check in on little one.  Now at 19 weeks I still use it once a week!
  • I bought the Sonoline B doppler.  I first tried to listen to the heartbeat around 11 weeks.  I heard it, but it took a few minutes to find.  There are a lot of sounds in there, so it is difficult at first to know what you are looking for.  If you get one, watch Youtube videos so you know what to listen for.  I regretted buying it for a while because until I was about 16 weeks or so, it was not always easy for me to find and it freaked me out a couple times.  I don't use it much anymore now that baby is moving, but it is easier to find now.

  • I have the sonoline B doppler and I have had success finding baby's heartbeat every time I use it since about 12 weeks. DH and I enjoy laying on the bed together about once a week and listening to it. A previous poster mentioned renting one for $30 a month. Mine was $75 on Amazon so it may just make more sense to buy one, especially if you plan on trying to have more children after this one. Make sure you order some ultrasound gel (Aquagel) when you order the doppler because mine did not come with the gel and I had to go on a mad search around my town to medical supply stores trying to find the stuff.
  • I got the cheaper Angel Sounds options around 12 weeks due to a previous loss. Sometimes it takes about 5 minutes to find it but it has been a great source of comfort.
